b16a1 motor swap probs
alright, my friend had a b16a1 obd1 swapped into his 96 civic sedan dx obd2. ever since the swap hes run into problems since he thinks the person who hacked up the conversion harness messed it up. his vtec crossover is set to 5300 via a vafc.
he says just about all the time when he revs to the vtec crossover point, the car seems to sputter like its hitting fuel cutoff, and then it dies. completely dies, and he needs to let it sit for a while before itll start back up. he says he usually gives it like a day, and after starting it up again, it starts with some effort, but theres blue smoke and a strong smell of gas coming from the exhaust. i suggested an oil leak for the smoke but he said theres no loss of oil as far as he can tell. not sure on that one. i rode in the car today and it didnt do anything except almost stalling one time when shifting but it didnt. just a close call. also, the car idles really high, around 2000 as i saw it today, but he said usually around 3000. it doesnt rev like a vacuum leak, just a steady high idle. oh yea, he also claims its running rich, but i cant tell. it may or may not be.
i also think that the vafc/vtec wiring is connected to the wrong pinout, but if so, then i dont know why it didnt do it today when he hit the crossover since as far as i can tell, it seems semi-healthy. it is however, driving him crazy since no one who claims they can fix it has fixed it.
anyone with any ideas? if i missed anything, just ask and ill see if i know or ill ask him. thanks.

nope, no codes. its weird but then again the wiring just may be that messed up.
ill tell him to check the vafc wiring, that sounds reasonable.
