Default How long on bent valves

how long can you run on bent valves? I was turning my motor over by hand and i can hear the air releasing through the valves after a few secs.

If its bent enough that its tapping the top of the head or the piston it will tap tap tap till the valve breaks and it will fall in the cylinder. then your really screwed.

i took the head off and there is no visual damage
but when i turn the motor over, i can hear air leaking so im assuming there somewhat bent. will these just eventually break?

^^^ yeah that happened to me and left me stranded on the way to work... i'd say don't drive on it unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. I was told a matter of months or until i could afford it, so you can but i wouldn't say more than a few weeks at tops. I drove on mine for about 2 months maybe alittle less

then what happened, the valve broke, what was the extent of the noise that you heard before it broke? also was the valves hitting the piston the whole time?thanks

you can run on bent valves until either the next blue moon or you've gone through two normal oil change cycles, assuming you're using JDM oil....

What the **** kind of question is this? Every valve bend incident is different for every car, it's not like a factory spec bend. It's not good to drive it at all... All you need is a valve to drop or something and you're SOL.

Are you sure it isn't air escaping past the gap in the piston rings? Why are you so sure that it's escaping past the valves?

i had bent a valve, and the car will idle like ****... sounded like a WRX....

if they are bent bad, they wont break fast, and u can drive it IF U HAVE to

but air excaping, might mean bad timing
