Default 3rd Gen Prelude 4WS-Si Questions

Hi guys - first time poster alert

Got a link to this site from a board I frequent here in Ireland - http://www.boards.ie. Used to be a regular poster on the old http://www.hondaprelude.com site before it closed a couple of years ago.

I bought my Prelude in pretty poor condition about 4 years ago and have spent a lot of time getting her roadworthy which she was until I bought a new Alfa 156 2 years ago. Anyway I'm going to put the lude back to work but there are a couple of things I need advice on.:

One of the sparkplugs went in cross threaded meaning I need to get a new head or this one repaired. Aside from the B20A engine what other Honda engine used this cylinder head. Getting parts for these in Ireland is tough but if the same engine was used in another model or year (Accord ??) it would give me a better chance.

I replaced the original O2 sensor (only one 4-wire sensor before CAT) with a general purpose part from a parts shop, Is there any difference between this and the original part supplied by Honda ? Would it effect performance / fuel efficiency? Should I replace it ?

The exhaust header and pipe as far as the CAT is very rusty and gives the characteristic rattle at 1500 to 2500 RPMs, as above is there any other engine/model that used this header. Is the rustyness a sign of overheating due to a blocked CAT - any suggestions ?

Answers to these would be great for now I may have a couple of others once work gets under way !! Thanks for your patience guys.

Welcome to the boards.

Im not positive, but I dont think that the b20 accord engines were compatible with the 3gen prelude. So, I think your best best is to find another 3gen prelude head. Check ebay, prelude boards and such. Try preludepower.com because there are alot of people with 3rd gens there.

I dont know what you mean by a general purpose part. I have heard that as far as O2 sensors go, Honda OEM is the best way to go because other aren't as good.

As for that exhaust rattle, lots of 3rd gens get that problem. Its not to hard to fix. Here is a link that explains everything. http://www.ludespeed.com/produ....html
You could always just buy another exhaust.

Thanks for the reply, I figured Honda used that block on more than one engine so I was hoping maybe it was a 91 or 92 2.0 4th Gen or an Accord because they're easier to find here. I'll give ebay a try but I doubt there will be many willing to post a Cylinder Head somehow.

With regards the O2 sensor: I bought a no-brand OEM sensor from a motor factors, I have always wondered if there might be a difference between it and the original Honda part. Perhaps a different sensitivity range or response characteristic maybe ??

Exhaust: I've read about the "repair" you mention but the pipes are very badly rusted and I'm not sure if they will take a weld thus I need to find a replacement, plus I'm concerned whether the CAT is blocked - new is not a viable option here - aftermarket parts are extremely difficult to buy here and Honda are looking for stupid money for a replacement plus a 2 or 3 month wait !!! It would really help to find out if there is another model that takes the same part.

Thanks again
