Carbotech Panther XP 10's
Carbotech has their new compound, as you all know, that is the 1110 or the XP10. It has a greater co-efficient of friction then the xp9 and a higher temperature range. Infact Larry said that the best and worst thing about these pads is the gripping ability. They are "technically" designed for heavier cars (over 2600lbs) but I picked up a set for my ITA CRX and am going to see how they work at the end of the month.
Larry said they have very strong initial bite and as you press the brake harder they will grip even harder
Larry also informed me that even though the size of pad (backing plate) is number 0273 they don't use that backing plate for my car they have changed to a new one that is 1/8 inch bigger then the 0273 backing plate. For anyone who's ever bent a brake pad in our calipers you all know that a 1/4" backing plate is gonna be a great improvement.
After the race at the end of this month I will bring this back from the dead. If anyone else has any other info on these pads they would like to share please do so.

I was hoping this thread was about how well they went. I want to try a set on my ITA hatch too. I went ahead and stuck with the 9's when I got them again a couple weeks ago, but this time got the larger plate as well since I bent mine in the last race. Good to know I'm not the only one in the same car. Let us know how they do!
1110? I must be "outta da l00p". More aggressive? Strong initial bite? I'm interested. What's the going rate for a set of the 273's. Once the PF93's became obsolete, I've been in the twilight zone trying to find the same feel.
I tested em' back in March. The XP10's are strong!!!
They seemed a bit "touchy" on my 2300lb H1 bucket back then... so I went back to the 09's for racing due to familuatry.
But, I plan on using the 1110's again at Summit Point next month.
John- who thinks Carbotech kicks ***!

cmon now john....i love the 1110's on my daily driver and on the race car!!!
touchy.....i wouldn't describe them the same....
i tested them with no prior knowledge of what this new compound was....
My words to MATT at Carbotech was "INITIAL BITE is AWESOME....they (1110) seem to grab harder the more you push on the pedal"
typically i have to go all the way to the floor with previous brands....only used maybe 1/2 of the pedal travel to get braking done
USED these pads at VIR FULL, and CMP and still daily driving on the same set!!!!
very good pads!!!

Ain't it the truth!
I picked up a set of 0273's for 107$ (that's with 10% H-T discount, 119 without). What sealed the deal for me with these when Larry told me the 273's were now offered with a 1/4" backing plate!

Colin,
You'll have to try what is on the car and draw some comparisons. Reg said they outperformed the PFC93's he is running in both feel and and deepness that he could go into a corner. I am going to let Keith and JohnG have a go at them for a session in Portland.
By the way thanks for the Rental of the rocketship and the opportunity to post its first ITA win in the Northwest. The car sure has been turning a lot heads and creating paddock murmur.

LOL... nobody actually. Reg, Keith and Jim were already using them. I bought my last two sets from Jim. Unfortunately, I ruined my last set of 93's during the USTCC qualifying and the Group 2 race during heavy downpours in Portland. I don't think I was able to get them up to proper operating temps in the wet, and they crumbled apart on me. Either that, or I cooked them more than I think.
I'm really interested in the new compound Rick is using. He's nice enough to let a few of us "demo" them before we buy. If they're anything like the 93's (and from what I've heard so far, they are), I'm in. I'll keep you posted Adam.

Good stuff John, I'll be interested in hearing. Be glad they took themselves out in the rain
, they usually take a lot of other stuff out in the wet on my car (I swore after the last time I'd use a different pad in the wet on a hard braking track).
But it does beg the question as to how these folks (Reg, Keith, Jim) decided to go that route ... veddy veddy suspicious ...

Don't get me wrong john, I want to use Rick's "mystery/miracle" pads but I don't want to pay for them. If the XP's do what they say then I should be able to match wit for wit with Rick's mystery pads.
107$ compared to 240$.... I got my fingers crossed!

If you'd like Colin, I can test the 10's for you next weekend at the SCCA Restricted Regional at Pacific. Sounds like a good idier to me
.
In fact, I might havta call Matt in the morning and get some coming. I'm just not as thrilled with my current pads as I'd like to be. Besides, It'd be nice to compare the 10's to Rick's compound at Portland.
Adam,
I didn't say a word... I swear.

John: if they get them to me in time john, I'd be happy to let you "break them in" at Pac. raceways. I would like to know what to expect from them before Portland.

that's the joy of Carbotech's product line, even though they do not advise street use, you can easily daily drive on their race pads with zero issues (other than slightly accelerated wear) Perfect trade off for peeps like me that would rather play on track all day rather than change pads in the morning and afternoons.....

Thats awesome! Most other "race" compounds I hear about do bad things when driven on the street. I will definitely have to look at these pads when I am in the market

Nash - who is consistantly surprised by the VR but is always looking for more.....</TD></TR></TABLE>
From what I understand, Cobalt's VR pads are about twice as dense as Carbotechs since their outsourced manufacturer has a better press. That might explain that I have 1000 track miles on my VRs (and about 2000 street miles), with a weekend or two left. Not to mention my car is 3300lbs with driver.
The only downside I about using the VRs on the street is that they are quite loud. Also, on the track, if you get on the brake pedal too aggressively on street tires, the ABS sensors begin to sense lockup. On R-compounds though, I don't have this issue.

I'd really like to see the data proving that...
Matt<---knows Carbotech's material is made by compression moulding and is about as dense as you can get...

Just ordered up a set.
I went from running Hawk Blue to SpecVR. I like the stopping power and fade resistance of the VR, but it doens't have that "toss out the anchor" bite I am used to with the blues.
