Prelude ABS light comes on after 25 seconds of driving
I have a 1996 Honda Prelude model. After starting the ignition and driving for 30 seconds, the ABS light comes on. I gave it to a mechanic and he is saying that the ABS pump and modulator needs to be replaced. The parts price tag is around 1900. The labor another 400. Way too xpensive for me. I then took it to another mechanic and he said that air might be stuck somewhere and by doing a power bleed, the air could be removed and it might solve the problem.
Qs:
1. Who are the OEM manufacturers for the Honda Prelude ABS pump and modulator?
2. What could be the actual problem for this ABS light coming on?
3. Can this problem be really solved by doing a power bleed?
4. Is there an aftermarket for the ABS pump and modulator parts?
5. Would these after market parts be reliable?
6. I know there was a recall in 1994 for a similar problem for Honda Accord? So does Honda Prelude use similar ABS system as 1994 Accord and if so, can we ask Honda to do the change for 1996 Prelude too?

one thing you might check is the wheel speed sensors
when one of mine was snapped, the abs light would come on
as soon as I pushed down on the brake.

Replacing it is way too damned expensive, so unless you REALLY want ABS, either take it out or just pull the fuse and disable that little light...

which sensor did you check? you should have one for each wheel

I've got a '95, and the ABS light comes on after 10 seconds. I replaced the speed sensors, then two months later the accumulator went out. I've been driving for three years with the ABS out. Don't tailgate or get crazy in the rain. In dry weather with good tires you'll be fine. I only lock up the brakes a couple times each year. You don't want to spend megabucks to get ABS back.
