Default Problems with New Hoosier

I was curious as to see if anyone else is having problems wearing the inside of the new Hoosier R3S04 very quickly

I exchanged e-mails with Hoosier and they say the camber setting is the same for the new tire as with the old but it seems that we are not the only ones having trouble

has anyone had this problem and found a comfortable way to remedy it?

Needs less camber, sounds like.

How much are you running Morgan? I ran 2.7 up front and they seem to be wearing fine...

I am running about 2 1/2 degrees

Corey is running 3 degrees, which is what Hoosier says to run

James Evans is experiencing the same problem running 3 degrees with tire temps even across the tire, which would indicate that is the correct camber

I reduced my camber at VIR and still experienced the same issue

Yea, I was asking if anyone else had this issue, but it seems like its only the cars that have radius rod front suspension that seem to have this problem..

I'm going to try around -2 next time, as I seem to recall the tires wearing better there..

I run 2.75 on left and 2.5 on right ...no problems still after 18-20 heat cycles....

Is the wear occuring on both fronts, or only on the inside tire (RF tire on a circuit with mostly right hand turns)?

I've only run the new tires once, but they still looked brand new at the end of the weekend.

-2.5 LF, -2.25 RF
Zero toe.
And Radius Rods

IIRC the Hoosier site recommends -3 for maximum performance, but notes that you won't get very good tire wear at that setting.

I'm running 2.7 camber, 4.5 caster and 1/16" total toe out, and on the A3S04, I'm also experiencing quicker wear on the inside shoulder than the outside. 89 Civic hatch, 8.5" wheels with 225/45-15, autocross.

Ask Scott again why he thinks ITC is a good idea.

Any reason for that?

That'd make a lot more sense

You have too much power. Add a restrictor to your inlet. 25 mm should be fine.

we both run 1/16" out in the front, 0 in the back.. It looks like the outer grove is almost brand new, and the inner grove is "gone" or just a ghost.. It happens to both front tires, on both cars, the 110hp Accord with open diff and 210hp Prelude OPM LSD..

Just seems odd, the old hoosiers didn't wear like that..

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact that the new tire doesn't heat cycle out like the old one, but this inner tire wear is really weird..

Now, we both run kinda low pressures for our cars, I swear the cars are faster at 38PSI in the front then the 43-45 hooser recomends, could that be the problem??

I don't see how it's possible to have even temperature yet have wear in only one area. Me thinks tire temps were measured late, after the temperature had stabilized across the tire face...

it will accelerate the wear...........

Also remember ...tires are also indicators...they indicate correct or incorrect car setup and driving style....

If laps time are not hurt, maybe try zero toe in the front for a while?

You still have an open diff right? If you do, I bet that is why.

You want somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 degrees HOT pressure.

If you're only at 38 hot, then you're way too low. If you're at 38 cold, you're probably close to 50 hot and way too high. Either one will screw up tire wear.

Might want to check with the OPM guys. I know they are running the new Hoosier on their Prelude and I haven't heard them speak of such issues.

Again, Hoosiers recommends 3 degrees negative but warns that you might not get good wear there. My guess is that this, along with pressures is Corey's problem. Pressures along with open diff is likely Morgan's issue.
And of course, overdriving a big heavy car with lots of negative camber will also wear the inside of the tires.

Its likely any 2 of the above mentioned.

it will feel good sometimes, but it will also cause blistering. I have dropped pressures to mask other shortcomings for a qualifying lap before.. but try it in a race and the tire may just come apart.

I have had this happen on both an EP CRX on Slicks (but we also had a toe issue) and a Showroom Stock Dodge Neon ACR.
