Default Hesitant Type R

Ladies and Gents
Have got a '99 Type R, which when on form is an automotive joy to drive. However, until the wonders of VTEC kick in, acceleration is not smooth is somewhat hesitant and occassionally prone to pre-detonation. The car has always been main dealer serviced, and run on Optimax. She has done approx 63k miles and has just had a main service. Have queried Honda a number of times about the issues, but they report all seems to be fine. Have just changed on advice to running on Super-Plus Unleaded, which seems to have made an improvement. Any and all advice gratefully received
cheers...Bruce

it's just the "Euro R", not 'euro type R'.

The higher octain fuel will help. You may want to check you timing with a timing light. You could be pulling advanced timing and not even know it. If I remember correctly you can play around with your timing a little by moving the dist. sub assy., but use a timing light to set the timing.

Have put through fuel system cleaner that just gets added to fuel tank. Is this different from what you're terming a proper injection clean?

Thanks for advice regarding timing, may invest in proper rolling-road set up

What in the world is a rolling-road ?? A dynamometer ??
The use of a timing light is a good idea .. I have not done this in years, doubt if my timing light still functions.

yes, a rolling road is a dyno.

and timing on OBD II H22s cannot be adjusted at the distributor like OBD I H22s.
