Here's my introduction: recent and not so recent detailing pictures
my car:

I wasn't dealing with a car that wasn't well waxed. Previously my car had Poorboys EX-P (synthetic resin sealant) and Blackfire (synthetic polymer sealant). You can see Blackfire loves to bead. I just wanted to see #16. The Blackfire was still slick and after 3 weeks or so, was slicker then the freshly applied #16. Not really an issue since I'm not entering the car into a concours event. The #16 will be very very durable and provide the protection I want, and it gives a really crisp/reflective shine.
Here's a few pictures I took before applying the #16. Notice darrr beads!!!

But not after NXT wash and a stream of water. This is a good trick. A final rinse without a nozel will sheet much of the water off. Saves time.

And my waffle weave that makes drying enjoyable.

my mom's car...it's my test vehicle. haha.

And this one...well...we spent 12 hours on it: There were a lot of chips we had to repair on the front of the car (touch up and wetsand, then buff out):

http://www.ddetail.com/low/pricing.html
For everything: $150 per car, $200 for SUV
Exterior only is $120 per car.
The 350Z was free (the owner let us have it for a show in exchange for a free detail).
The 3000GT VR-4 was $200. He got a steal--that included paint chip removal and the engine detailed.
I have a chip-removal how to on Honda-acura.net. I didn't write it very well, and I don't really recommend it to people that haven't wet sanded at all before...but...it gives you a better idea of what we had to deal with on this car:

as you can see, they really didn't care about it.
haha.
edit: thanks for all the good remarks.
It's a lot of work--I appreciate it.
