Default Anyone with experience with this setup?

I've been giving some thought on trying 215/45x16" Azenis (shaved) on 16x7" wheels (maybe 16x7.5" wheels - if I can find the right offset) on the fronts and 205/50x15" Azenis (not shaved on 15x7" wheels) in the rear.

Has anyone tried this? Back in September 2001 I tried 215/45x16" Azenis all around but gave up since it was rubbing so bad. Now I've been thinking about getting more front end grip.

As some of you have been reading my Comptech bar is due in tomorrow. But I will not be able to try it out until Aug 22nd.

What do you guys think?

I still think you can setup the car well on 205's, but I dont have the option of trying anymore.

On my 215/45/16 on 16x7 the tread measures exactly 8.0 inches as listed on the falken web page. Now they measure the 205/50/15 on a 6.5 width rim and the contact patch is 7.6". I would think on a 7" rim you should gain about 1/8 to 1/4 more of an inch. Now your looking at 7.8-7.9 which is close to the same as the 215/45/16 but without the cost.
Just my thoughts. Ran my 215/45/16 on 7.5 width rims and they rubbed like crazy inside sub-frame and fender. No problems with the 7" rim width.

first of all, the 215s give a noticable increase in grip over the 205s...at least i could tell. second dont shave azenis.....EVER. Azenis dont stick nearly as well once you get past 50% tread. You want those bad boys at full tread. They dont work like R compounds do.

you have no idea how wrong that statement is. fast falkens are bald falkens.

mike, i tried running a 205/195 setup on my car. the only problem i ran into was that the 195's have a different sidewall construction, so there resonse was way different from the 205's. this was only an issue in transitions. steady state cornering the balance was a little improved but that may have been more of a pressure sensitivity thing with the 195's.

i'm not 100% sure the 215's will be faster. it would be nice if you could borrow someone's wheels and tires, or at least just the wheels. gl!

In my possession I have a 15x8 rim with a 205 Azenis on it and a 16x8 rim with a 215 Azenis on it. The 8" rim stretches the 215 Azenis out noticably less when compared to the 8" 205 combo.

If it were legal, a 8.5" rim would be perfect for the 215 Azenis whereas the same 8.5" rim would be too much for a 205 Azenis.

Food for thought...

I can get the 215/45x16" at cost from Falken, so that's not an issue.

But yeah as Nate said less tread stickier Azenis. You may have to use Formula V on them if you run them down to 3-4mm instead of getting them shaved.

My shaved Azenis were like night and day compared to full tread.
