REAR END ACCIDENT!!!
Last night on my way home, I was sitting at a stop light, and "BAM"! Radar detector flies off, ashtray pops open. I'm so pissed off!
It was a female driver claiming to have no insurance. Now I'm really pissed!
She insists she pay me out of her pocket and gives me her information. I ask her to give it to me again because it was raining and the ink on the paper she gave me was running. I notice the information she gives me doesn't match. So I ask for her driver's license. She says she doesn't have one, and I noticed she's drunk.
Call the cops they come, give her the test, and she's charged for DUI.
Also, when the police arrive she "magically" finds her insurance card. But I'm still left with a scratched/cracked rear bumper.
I'm worried her insurance is canceled or no longer in affect. Oh yeah, the address she gave me were both wrong. Ok now for the questions.
My rear OEM ground kit got damaged also. What happens if there are no more available?
Anyone know a rough estimate of what I'm looking at before adjuster contacts me?
What caused such a loud "BAM" with such minimal damage?
...Upset about my situations...

Lisa - In your case, your insurance will cover for all your damages. (Most states have a law of some sort to protect the injured against uninsured motorist.) Check with your state law if your insurance agent is giving you the run-around.
As for the "BAM", it's just your bumper absorbing the impact. Happened to my old EK hatch... I heard a big "BAM", but when I got out there were only screw marks (from the other car) and the bumper was slightly misaligned.
Hope you didn't have any physical insuries... those suck the most.

Sorry for the events that occured.
I had almost the same thing happen to me. I was on the freeway and stopped at night on the 710 heading northbound. all of a sudden, i hear a small *bam* and then a loud *BAM* then I look in the rear view mirror and a suzuki samurai pulled to the left of me (we were in construction area), and then a Mazda 626 came afterwards.
I couldn't get out of my car initially cause the quarterpanel pushed foward on the door a little so I opened from the handle on the outside, and budged myself out.
I got out of my car, took out my camera, snapped both cars pics and licenses, and after that, police came by right away.
They drove my car rally style while I was in the back seat and my wife was in the passenger side onto the curb.
I looked at the damage and they hit my left bumper side, which pushed in the 1/4 panel, damaged part of my wing, and my hatch was unopenable. CHP had to cut my bumper cause it was pushed into the wheel (glad they didn't hit my muffler side :S)
The guy in the Mazda hit the gurls in the suzuki. they had cars that had to be towed. My car was just rear ended. We all took our DUI tests (i admit, i was drinking but not that I was intoxicated that I couldn't drive), I was scared I would get DUI too but I was let go.
Mazda guy was arrested for DUI. Both were treated for injuries.
It took me almost a year to get all my money back. But next time I do this, I will get a lawyer to grant me money back cause you get more back this way. Not to be greedy, but for all the time and suffering and calling the Insurance company, it wasn't worth the wait. I will change Insurance companies soon.
Like Cosworth said, you should have something in your insurance called Uninsured Motorists for Bozos like those who say "I dun have insurance". My damage initially was $10,000 but was worked down to $6000->$7000 not including what i had to pay out of my pocket for rental expense (that I didn't get reimbursed forever cause the other companies had to pay for my reimbursement.
Here's another thing. Take it to a reputable shop. that is the most important thing. It took me a while to get the all the flaws worked out. I still don't like the way they attached my hatch but I don't want to deal with them now and will attempt to get it fixed by Acura instead.
As for the rear OEM ground kit, it should be still available. If not, they can paint to match what your car color is. I have to admit, the paint matching done on my car was really good. (Radley acura can get you a full OEM kit for $350 shipped)
My *BAM* was loud too. I should scan the pics i took :S
make SURE you ask for OEM parts. My shop mostly used "OEM parts" but I noticed some tabs are not "OEM". Don't get used parts (it will be cheaper but in my opinion, i would go for the best).

Thanks everyone!
I feel a little better, but everytime I look at my car I just cringe...
Do you guys know if it's possible for me to get the check or will they have to go straight to the body shop?
I really hope nothing goes out of my pocket.
Uninsured motorists suck!!!
Do they get any type of punishment?

you may need to pay a deductible if you want your car fixed. Also, take it to a body shop you want the work done (usually the insurance has a list to choose from). Find out in your area where the good ones are as well. Otherwise, you will have to call the person's insurance that crashed you and get your check. I think they will with a DUI. And that they have to mebe pay for your losses (if you are injured or what not).

I got bumped the other day in a parking lot, and the guys insurance is writing the check out to me. Now I get to decide if I want to repair all the damage, or just part of it...
