99 EX Coupe 4spd manual
Recently, my 99 EX Coupe 5spd manual, had stalling problems related to the fuel switch underneath the dashboard on the driver's side. Something about age, and heat, and the car not running for it.
This was an easy fix for about $50, saving me about $500s to replace a starter as recommended by my local Honda Dealer (Cary, NC), which as I think about it, wouldn't have solved my problem, just earned Bob the Mechanic a fat commision for the day.
I found that tidbit of info about the switch here, I'm sure... Thanks, what a savior!
So, now, couple of months later, my car is hard-starting. It is a problem similar to the switch before, in that the car does not start. However, this time, the car doesn't turn over (it did before, but never caught - like you're out of gas).
Now, however, the starter clicks, but doesn't engage the fly. No turning over...
However, if I flip my key over, or wiggle it about, it starts right up. This makes me think of the ignition recall that the automatics had a couple of years ago. Is this a similar problem, that the contacts are wearing out and not allowing something to do something to turn the car over? And that my wiggling the key fixes it?
I have yet to try the spare key (not as worn down) - it may be the quick fix.
I guess my question is, is this an ignition switch problem, or a starter problem, like the Honda mechanic suggested few months ago.
Thanks,
Any reponse is appreciated: twatts@kci.com
