ITS Integra GSR Wins at Sebring
I usually don't post here to often but with all the negative talk about the GSR being in ITS I thought I would give an race review of the SCCA Double SARRC at Sebring (Long Course) this last weekend.
Quick background: Currently racing a 1995 Integra GSR prepped to IT rules, I have been racing it on and off for 5 years with good sucess since the start.
Sat Qualifying:
They did not have any practice sessions so we only had one twenty minute session. I had just been at Sebring the weekend before (Chin School) so I was ready for a qualifying session. I grided with about eight ITS RX-7s in front of me and the before the end of the first lap I got around all of them and had the track wide open on lap 2 which felt good. On the third lap I hit traffic in all the wrong places, same on lap 4 so I stopped early since I knew Lap 2 was my best and with the traffic going so slow I would not go any faster.
Turns out my transponder was not working so SCCA had to use the manual back up lap times. They decided that they would not let me use my fastest lap only my second fastest lap which put me 4th in class. My fastest lap would have been on pole.
The car on the pole was ANOTHER INTEGRA GSR driven by south florida driver. I think the field included 25 ITS cars, which is a good sized field with a ton of RX-7, a Mercedes 190E, BMW 325, Porsche 944, etc.
Sat Race:
Turned out to be a rain race, numerous cars decided not to race. I finished 2nd in class, a RX-7 won. The other GSR had a huge led on the field and hydroplaned off into a tire wall and was out. My rain tires were about 4 years old and took about 4 laps before I had any grip.
I was happy with 2nd since this was my first race in over a year.
Sun Qualiying:
Was in the dry and I ended up third in class behind a RX-7 and a Mercedes. My fastest lap was the second or third lap and I only did about half the session trying to save the tires for the race.
Sun Race:
Wet but not raining. I had two cars pass me on the start and I took two laps for my tires to warm up then moved through the field in to first place by lap 5 then put the car in cruise mood after I opened up a 13 second led and won ITS in an Integra GSR. This was actually my second win at Sebring with this car in this class.
Overall a great weekend for the Integra GSR in ITS, big THANKS to CARBOTECH for the 1110 pads. They worked great all weekend with very minimal wear and very easy on the rotors. The number of cars I passed under braking (in the dry or wet) was huge, brake were very easy to modulate, release was perfect and even in the rain I never had one lock-up (without ABS). These pads required me to change my brake points (in the dry) from before and I still left some time on the track just in deeper braking.
The rain did not hurt my chances of winning, but the point is in the dry me and another GSR were at the front (on the Pole on Sat). You aren't going to do it in car that is not prepped to the same level as all the other cars in the class and mine is still not there yet.
And yes after qualifying I weighted my car at SCCA tech and tipped the scales at 2705, 15 lbs over the minimum weight. KONI shocks and CARBOTECH brakes worked great all weekend.
I'll let you know how the next race goes.

I was there and saw that black GSR pick the inside rear and carry it all through turn 17. I was amazing to see. Good job Scott! I also had a great time. The Lamin-X CRX is simply getting better and better and I'm still running with an open diff. Anyways, I had a great weekend and while my car didn't make the Saturday race, it did make it to the Sunday race. I manage to qualify second for both races and manage to finish second on Sunday with 2 john deer excursions
The BMW is a 325. Car is brand new and driver has driven with SCCA for 6 years.
Keep in mind the Qualifying was in the dry and a GSR was on the pole.
And an RX-7 won in the rain on Sat.

The BMW is 1993, the newer of the two body styles and motors that are classified in ITS. Down in Florida we don't have the same BMWs that run up north and they never come down here. We only get a couple every year that come down, but they dominate at any of these tracks, not even at Daytona which everyone says is a high horsepower course.
Good job to Rich for the 2nd place in ITA, you need to find a way to catch that ITA BMW. And why did they make you have a split start?
I should have soon pictures in the next few days that I will post.

Congrats on the win.
Where did you bolt the kitchen sink to get 2700#!??! I am still a little under for H3 weight (2575#) with close to 100# in the floor!
Come up and run with us at Roebling next month!

But wont it be hard to go around the course in reverse so you can still race with RWD?

Thanks! FYI, the tips you gave me on tire pressures work. The CRX actually became pretty neutral. As far as the split starts, I don't know why we had them. We only had 10 ITA entries and with all the rain, only 5 decided to race. I must say, I really enjoyed racing with all the Spec Miatas. I mean, doing qualifying runs with them. By the way, I'm planning on doing the enduro during Labor Day weekend. Are you?

Do you care to share a few secrets with me offline? I would love to listen!

Ha ha, yes I did. My brother said it was pretty funny. During qualifying, I would start and stay right behind him from 1/2 a lap. Then, I would just turn it on and while his car was still accelerating, I would simply check out.

corners will suck, but 170whp sounds like fun compared to 110.

My fastest lap times were as follows:
Sat Qualifying (dry): 2:38.xxx- this was my second fastest time they would not give me the fastest recorded manual time which was a 2:36.5
Sat Race (Very wet / rainy): 3:14.6
Sun Qualifying (dry): 2:37.5
Sun Race (Wet, but only a light sprinkle): 2:58.64
As far as the weight if you every look at the cage in my car that is where it is. I knew building the car that achieving a low wieght was not an issue so I beefed up the cage alot. I still have the spare tire and 60lbs bolted in the passenger footwell area and I must finish the race with about 1/2 tank of gas.
I am definitely considering the ARRC, I really need more seat time at that track. If they would move that ARRC around a bit like Daytona or Sebring one year, then Road Atlanta then VIR it would probably mix things up a bit.
