Honda Engine Problem
I will be driving my 93 Honda Accord down the road and all of a sudden, my RPM gauge will die, and then pick up again. Some times the gauge will pick up again and the car will continue, and sometimes the car will die and i need to restart it. Most times it starts right up again, but sometimes it takes a minute or two to start again. Its pretty damn frustrating because it will not happen for a few weeks and then it will do it a few times in a week.
I am currently having the same problem with my '97 Accord LX (102,000 miles). I'll be driving along and it will suddenly and completely die. The odometer and speedometer drop to zero, the lights shut off, the turn signal doesn't work, etc. I am able to start the engine again and ignition occurs as long as I leave the key in the start position. As soon as I let it go (back to the on position) it dies again. Two or three more times and the car stays on. Once I let the car coast to see if the meters would `come alive' on their own. They did after about 10 seconds, however it still took a few tries to get it to start.
Hopefully someone else has had similar problems that have been fixed and is willing to share his/her testimony. Ohterwise any suggestions on what could be wrong would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

that problem deals directly with your ignition coil gentleman, i know this because it happened to me and i changed the ignition coil on my 94 LX and the problem subsided, the problem i had was that i had an aftermarket ignition, and when i removed it, i re-attached the wires back to the stock plug, and man, i guess the coil wasnt getting the proper feed and the car would stall out, it is imperative you check your ignition coil, the wiring that goes to it, which is part of the main engine wiring harness, and also, just for ***** and giggles, check your dist.cap, rotor underneath it, and the distributor itself!
oh yea, check the terminals on your battery, see if they have corroded or your plugs on the battery are somewhat loose, that can also be a contributing factor to this problem, but not so much if you are driving the car...

Thanks for the pointers Arky
---I'm on the right track I guess....
I'm having a similar problem with my wife's 91 Accord Wagon. Gets hot, and the tach starts to spike/float. Twice it shuts down at speed, slide it into neut(it's an auto) and you can't restart. Coast to a stop, shut it down, and it refires immediately. Only seems to do it when the revs get up over 3000, and when the car is hot.
Started checking battery terms, cleaned em and so on. Thought it could be the plug wires getting hot or something (they're the origs), so that was next. So, I guess I'll put the coil on my list. Yes, checked the distrib already by wapping it with the one on my 91 Accord sedan, and that wasn't it...
