Default ac belt broke -> timing belt cover broken?

Alright, about a month ago, my ac belt broke off from unknown reasons. Anyways, I didn't think much of it, since I cut the rest of the belt off and removed the entire system. Yesterday, I went to remove the power steering using Padawan's kit and noticed that the timing belt cover, right around the crank pulley was kinda wierd. It seems as if the cover is broken, but here's the description...

The cover has a pointer on it for checking the timing by pointing to the ring on the pulley closest to the engine. The cover, however, sticks out and covers that outer ring. Upon further inspection, the cover has been chewed away by the pulley, but still sticks out. The cover almost touches the alternator belt.

Anyways, I looked at the timing belt breifly and it doesn't look like it has suffered any damage, but is there any risk in letting the cover stay like that since it hasn't done anything for the last month or so?

When I get a chance, I'll be replacing the timing belt, water pump, and the cover in the near future. Oh, FYI, the belt was replaced in January when I rebuilt the motor, so maybe 20k miles max ago.

Also, just incase some of you are wondering this, OBD2 gsr injectors can fit into an obd1 clip by clipping off the four little sliders and grinding off the main tab from the plug side of the injector. Anyways, this was a little project because I was running rediculously lean and hot all of the time, and after changing the thermostat, radiator, changing to water wetter, retarding the timing, adding fuel from the vafc2, and praying every night, it was still running lean. The plugs were white and the arm and electrode were falling apart. Anyways, with these "new" injectors, the plugs became dark brown, so I returned the fuel settings back to "stock" on the vafc. I'll check up on them later.
