1990 Code 12 (EGR) HELP!!!
OK, so I recently purchase an older accord, 1990 to be exact, to go to work and back.
The car is automatic, has 298,000 kms on it and runs strong (gotta love my hondas)
Anyways, I need to pass my emmisions test to register the car and with the code 12, there's no way she'll pass.
So I've done the first test to see if the EGR hold 8" of vacuum, it doesn't! I ordered one from the local scrap yard , and the same thing? sent that one back and got another. Same thing again. did the same a third time, and no change!
Now before I go and by a brand new one, I want to know how this valve works.
If the EGR is not installed on the car and I suck on the little pipe(please hold back on the jokes :D) until the diafram is sucked in and place my tongue on the end of the pipe, should the diafram hold its position or or pop back into its original position?
I just find it wierd that three EGR's in a row don't work!
Thanks.

did you reset the ECU after you put the new EGR valve on? you may just be getting the old code each time as opposed to getting the same code each time
More likely then not you will want to put a new one on. Those are known to go bad after alot of milage on them. Also try checking the valve on the car with is running at idle.
I tried checking the valve while the car was running. If I suck with my mouth the car will stall. If I use the vacuum pump, the gauge goes up to about 4" than instantly drops back down to 0.
I guess I should just by a new one?
Thanks for your help...

Make sure your vacuum pump isn't fucked up.

Also, could someone answer me this...
If I hold the EGR valve in my hands, is there any way of checking if the valve is good or not (check if the diafram holds the pressure. Or must it be installed on the car to check this.
Thanks again

It should hold vacuum and the pintle should also open.
