Default God i hate working on cars..

Recently, I bought a '91 CRX Si. TG in colour, blown motor. $700 it's mine.
It had Enkei's, almost perfect interior (the door panels have the typical seatbelt tear), and it looked relatively good.

I remember that someone was selling a RUNNING damaged and salvaged title '91 CRX Si. How much? $400.

Friday, I get the car. Tried to tow it home with a friend's Chevy Xtreme... it worked for about 5 miles. until an ambulance shot thru an intersection, he braked, I yanked on the e-brake. He stepped on the gas, straps broke.

AAA saves the day with free 100mile tow. While waiting for doofus tow truck guy, I start removing the engine harness and main harness from the car, since I need it in Homer. 100+ degree weather and I'm removing wiring in a gas station. This car was BEAT looking too, had a spare tyre welded to the front end.

Get it home 4hrs later from the time i initially tried to pick it up. it's 6pm on Friday. By 7:00pm, I had the engine out.
By 8:00pm, I had cut up my hands 4 times.
By 10:00pm, I had a good portion of the main harness out, the headlamps, the door panels off, the AC lines out, the front suspension off.

Saturday. 11:30a. I start working on Hulk (the TG $700 CRX). A friend comes over to help. by 1:00p, we have the blown engine out. By 5:30p, Hulk is running and takes me to Little Caesars for the cheapest way to feed two guys... $5 pizzas.
From 5:30p-10:00p, I work on installing the main harness from the beater crx into Homer, as well as pick apart other things from the beater CRX.

cut my hands a few more times.

Sunday, 12:30p start time. Hulk's doors had some minor dents and on the passenger door, someone tried to break in by prying the door handle out. So, i swapped doors from Hulk and the beater CRX. The beat CRX was black but had clean doors.

by 3:00p, I had Hulk's driver's door off. by 4:00p, i had a black door on Hulk (including glass and door hndles)

by 7:00p, the other set of doors were switched. I didn't spend any time aligning the doors on teh beat CRX. spent a lot of timing aligning them on Hulk.

by 10:00p. the beat CRX's engine harness was in Homer. Cranked over the car. not a damn thing.

So, out of THREE CRXs I had on Friday. One of them worked. By end of today, I'll have TWO CRXs, one working with $1100 invested over the past week and the other with $13K+ invested in it over 5 years and not working.

I hate working on cars.

pics??!?!?

here:

One almost completely stripped CRX.

The major damage of the impact that this poor bastard received. the shock tower was pushed back a few inches, causing the wiper motor to be impossible to remove, without cutting metal.

The other side didn't crumple... but it did receive a nice dose of minor front end damage.

The damn doors that took forever to swap.

one of the main reasons why i swapped them.

front passenger wheel well. the car came with no pass. fender, most likely due to the impact it received. i dropped it on the wheels today so i didn't have my jack stands sitting outside.

Beater and Hulk in some candid pictures. in the last picture, you might be able to see Homer...he's saying "get me running so you can abuse the hell out of me."

The best thing about stripping the car... the process goes:
A. Remove
B. If you need it, proceed to D, if not, proceed to C.
C. Toss that bitch in the car.
D. Keep it and store it somewhere.

The taillamps were victims of my rampage. thankfully, they weren't installed very well (loosenly mounted, with only 2 of 6 nuts holding them in). You can kinda see the nasty *** clear centre section. Whoever designed that should be shot.

Disc brakes... where did you go?

oh, there.

The blown engine from Hulk. It'll be dismantled later this week. wonder what's wrong with it...

rear crossmember with the steering rack...surprisingly light. The disc brake assembly was heavier.

Hey homer...

...I ******* hate you. why don't you work?!?

More Hulk

Hulk door. there's some gap between the fender and door. I'll probably adjust it more later... after paint.

Homer wants out...

What's this? Wilwood brake brackets... wonder what will go on these...(free brakes!)

anyone want a L3 gearbox? don't know if it works...

Ol' Reliable. Maxine is the daily grind. Has AC, a sunroof, and seating for 4 lovely ladies and me.

depends on how bad it is.

if it's a spun bearing... and the crank needs to be replaced. I'll use the block as a door stop.

don't know yet. Might trade the engine with my neighbor for a digital camera (as you can tell by the REALLY LOUSY digital camcorder pictures)

yeah... i cut that bastard off. It made pulling the engine a little less easier.

although funny. I'm surprised no one picked it up... it was a steal at $400, considering it had a working engine and gearbox.

I'll let you know, i'm in the process of figuring out the problem with the engine, before i start stripping it. look for parts in the classifieds though. i'll give you dibs on the alternator

Wouldnt it be funny if all it turned out to be was a broken timing belt on that motor? I wouldn't have thoguht it was a very common problem with these cars but including myself I have known 3 people that happened to which could give the appearance of a "blown motor" when in fact most times a 40$ belt properly installed will fix everything Good kill(s)
*edit* n/m if my memory serves me that green crx looks like the same one you knew the motor blew cause it was your friends car and it blew at an autox or something to that effect... Could be wrong in every direction but ah well

yes, but, we replaced that engine... to only have the newer engine blow too.

yep...sounds about right. I've had 3 motors over the past 2 years. Each of them lasted at best 4000 miles. My lastest build blew a hg 5 minutes after startup. Then while the motor wasn't running I decided to put in a teg dash. while putting in the dash I hit my front windshield cracking it wide open. I love working on my crx

Sorry, just needed to vent. This looked like the perfect post.

Couple of things...

1 - Stop cutting your hand, that would probably make it more enjoyable to work on the cars.

2 - So many car names :dizzy: lol

well, BEATER got towed away today.

the tow truck driver didn't really car about the car, ha! he tossed a chain on the front, and started pulling it up the tow bed...even at a rough 20 degree angle.

we ended up using a jack on the rear end to move it around. It was funny seeing it being flat-bedded away.

and i still can't get Homer running. cranks over without a problem. just doesn't want to start. the only code i'm getting is 21...but, that's been solved.

checked all my grounds. they are fine. I got power to the fuel pump. I got fuel pressure (as indicated by the fuel pressure gauge on the firewall), i got spark, i connected my stock dash to see how much gas i have (over half), and still...

not a damn thing. What's odd is, it RAN for a bit, then died. hasn't ran since.

I feel you man! Really I cut my hand about 5 times a day working on damn Mitsubishi's. I am a mitsu tech and look at about 7-10 cars a day and also have to work on other crap like neons and pt cruisers. then I get to come home and work on the good ole honda and mistu swaps that i am doing at home isn't it fun!!!!! good luck on your crx.
less cuts = less bandaids I ran out and now get to use my sons cartoon bandaids
tru using starter fluid and see if it will run if you don't have starter fluid you can use brake cleaner.

Dammit. I could SO use some odds and ends bolts and a battery tray.

I've got a B16a block and crank laying around for the el cheapo if you need it. Papers and all, perfectly legal.

Like the work, though. get some mechanix gloves. They save my hands!

I seriously have like a bucket full of bolts. let me know what you need and i could probably send you some, you just pay for shipping.

and i'm officially stumped. I can't get the engine to run. I checked the main relay. It works. checked all the grounds, they are all there. checked the locash distributor connectors... it's right. checked my fuses. they are fine. I'm getting spark (200rpms worth when i crank it) and 40psi of fuel pressure...
