Default Hesitation Problem: 88 CRX Si w/B16

Well my buddy has a 1988 CRX Si with a first gen Japanese B16. It does this really weird thing where it bogs and hesitates alot. Also the tach jumps around and everytime it does the car sputters. It only really happens when you get on it and take it above 5k or so. We have tried different ecu's, distributors, and timing, etc. If anyone has any light to share on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the other basics things such as spark plugs, a new fuel filter and such?

Its got a brand new fuel pump, and fuel filter, and spark plugs. We have tried different dist. and it still does it.

could be the o2... try doing some voltage testing to make sure everything is actually working.

Could the o2 sensor really cause the tach to jump?

Im thinking it may have something to do with the dist. wiring because when the tach jumps (and when I say jumps, it goes all the way to redline and bounces, but the motor doesnt rev that high) So Im thinking maybe one of the wires in the dist. wiring is bad and is short circuiting or has a bad connection. Are there any wires that would cause this problem, like a TDC sensor or something?

Also how do you check the voltage for the TPS, he has a VAFC2 and I think you can check the voltage through there, correct me if im wrong.

Ya, I dont think its the o2's, they basically dont do anything at WOT, and this is where you are getting the hesitation, right?

It all depends, we went into the canyons the other night, and its after you get on it for a bit, like maybe three or four times, it starts ******* up. And most of the time you can just turn the car off and start it back up and it goes back to normal, but also under heavy load, like going up hills and what not its starting to hesitate too. Im really confused on this. He just replaced the entire head, and we have tried using other dist. and ecu's and it still does it. The only thing that I can think of is that its the wiring harness. Does anyone have an 88 crx si wiring harness for sale? haha

Well he finally got it to throw a code today, threw code 7. Which is TPS sensor. So we are going to check the VAFC wiring and then check the TPS wiring. Hopefully that fixes it.

Also with the VAFC you can make the MAP sensor throw a code which will make it run shitty like your talking about.

You can run the car without the TPS and won't do that, at least mine doesn't, nor does my brothers ormy friends. When mine did that, i checked the thermo housing ground and that was the problem. Make sure all you grounds are there because if not, the car will run like ****! Try it, it might work!

Im thinking it may have to do with something in the wiring, like the crank sensor or something because the tach jumps and when it jumps the car bogs at the same time. I will check all these things. Thank you. If anyone else has anything else tocontribute it would be greatly appreciated.

I have had this problem twice with my CRX, the first time it was the O2 sensor; and the second time it was the distributor.
