Ping = combustion chamber detonation
Clatter = valve adjustment
btw... depending on your warranty, valve adjustment may not be covered because it is considered a maintainace item...

If the vehicle has been purchased recently, then the dealer/seller should honor the warranty and adjust the valves for free.. some places avoid doing maintenance on a vehicle until the owner complains of a problem.. If you didn't notice the problem, then they would have saved themselves $75.. sad but true..
