Default everythihng back together.....wont fire

I just finished taking off the head for a new headgasket and new timing belt, and I put everything back together, and the starter wont crank over. All the interior lights come on and when i go to start it, i here a single click from the starter. Then it wont try anymore. not sure what the problem is. when my timing belt broke, the starter worked fine so im not sure if i forgot to connect everything or what.
please help
brian

if you got a multimeter, then test the battery. If not, then jump it anyways

Check your main relay under the dash and near the steering column. Your Chilton or Haynes manual will explain how to test it. If you think your starter could be the culprit, push start the car, if it fires up, then I would say its a starter related problem. Check the ground and positive wire on the starter. Also, check the battery terminals and your fuses. It could be something stupid simple.. HTH - Darrell

i jumped the car and it started, so i assume that the battery was dead. it makes a clicking noise and the cam gear lines are about a tooth off from each other. do i have to readjust the timing belt now....noooooooo
