Default need advice on stereo upgrades please

I have a 1983 Honda Accord sedan. Currently I have the following for stereo stuff.. Alpine: SPS-170A (6 1/2" 2 way coxial speakers) for my fronts and rears. The factory fitting for speakers in the fronts was 4", so I just cut the hole out a bit so I can put some 6 1/2's in there. Alpine: CDA-9827 head unit. I am running deck power for now but oh well. Here is where I need some advice and pointers if someone cn help. Here is what I am wanting: Alpine: CDA-9835 head unit, Alpine: SPR-176A (Type R series)(6 1/2" componet speakers for the front), Alpine SPR-174A (type R series)(6 1/2" 2 way coxial speakers for the rears), Alpine: MRV-F540 (4 channel amp for the fronts and rears), Alpine: SWX-1242D (Type X series)(12" sub, putting this in a nice ported box), Alpine: MRD-1001 (mono block amp for the sub). Is there anything else i should get? Should I get a capacitor or will I not be making anough power for one? My main question is my electrical system... Any ideas on a better alternator? Or should the stock one due me? I plan on getting a red top optima battery. If anyone has any other ideas please feel free to tell me. Thanks a bunch... Zach (sorry for such a long drawn out post)

Zach (sorry for such a long drawn out post)</TD></TR></TABLE>First let me say you have picked a very good audio package.

I will start with elec. yes, upgrade the alternator, the redtop works, use waffer type fuse and holder,[EFX fuseholder work best] in engine bay,[ 4ga wire from batt. to fuse] then run TWO 8ga wires from fuse to amps,[one for sub amp and one for highpass amp] add capacitor to sub amp, ground the two amps and cap. to the same place if you can, at least the cap. and sub amp useing 8ga wire and keep ground wires as short as you can, use seat belt, or seat bolts or any bolt or stud that gos into floorpan. make sure you clean all paint off the floorpan so the ring term. is in direct conntact with the floorpan, beef up,[add] ground at batt. with a 4ga lead to cars frame rail, beef up [replace or add] ground from engine to chassis, also 4ga, replace charge line from alt. to batt. use min. 8ga, 4ga would be better, use the proper ring term., [gage and stud size] for all the connections, and solder all of them.

Run RCAs and speaker wire down center of car, run power and trigger wires down battery side of car,[ it does not matter if RCAs and power cross each other but do not let them run next to each other for more then 10" or so.

Mounting speakers, 3 rules, 1-mount to flat surface. 2-airtight seal between front and back of speaker for as far away from outside edge of speaker as you can.
3-Mass, the more mass the the speaker is mounted to the better it will sound.

And if the mass is wood, even better, a speaker mounted to wood will sound better than almost anything else.

As for the sub and box, for the sub, the above applies, the box should be custom made for the sub, using 1" and 3/4" MDF , it should be airtight [ except port ] and braced , and when mounted in car, as solidly as possable.

hope this helps. 94

well thats cool... I just didnt know if ya reccomended anything specific or not LOLI am still debating on weather to get a ported box or not for the sub. I listen to all kinda of music, from rap to rock to metal to country. I am looking for sound quality but also I want bass for when desired as well I guess you could say. Am I still aiming in the right direction with the stuff I am wanting? Thanks a bunch so far... Zach

Zach </TD></TR></TABLE> Not realy anything specific, other then the EFX waffer fuseholder, it is inexpensive and the way the cover is made on there new ones makes it easy to run two ,[or even up to 4 ] power wires from it, as for the rest of the power, wire you can get at welding supply shops,[ better wire at half the price over "car audio power wire", alternators Autozone or 12v eletric motor and alt. shops are cheaper then "car audio alt." or the bone yard, something out of an ambulance or some fully loaded blowsmobile land yacht, I have found 230amp alt. at a junk yard, working for $20, some work to make them fit into a Honda, but $20 at bone yard, or $750 + for a "car audio" one.

As for the rest ,you already have Alpine, enough said. 94
