dynamat and other sound deadening products - are they worth it?
I've spent a good amount of time and work on my stereo. I am about ready to put it into my car, and thought about Dynamat or a similar sound deadening product. Any comments and/or suggestions from anyone that has it or has used it regarding if it is worth the time and money? I have a hatchback, so I hear a lot of plastic moving around, squeaking, etc. from bumpy roads and potholes. Anyway, just wondering it this is a good idea or not, and what brands are better/worse. Thanks
If you have the time and patience, I highly recommend it. Dynamat is the name everyone knows, but you can get the same quality from other manufacturers for less.
time i can deal with. i don't think i'm going to attempt any more shows til next spring (putting away car for winter). i have a lot of work to do and keep letting myself down by registering for shows when my car isn't ready, then losing my registration fee when i am not done in time for the show. anyway, how much time does it take, say for doing the whole trunk/rear seat area (94 integra hatchback)? would a 100 sq. ft. roll be enough?
Dynamat is definately worth it. Make sure to buy Dynamat Xtreme and not the original. The former does a better job. Check eBay for the best prices for Dynamat, which are usually 50% off retail.
There are also alternatives which may or may not be as good. These include RAAMat, B-quiet, Fatmat, etc.

The doors are one of the most important places to put sound dampening material, so definately do them.

there are tons of other products like dynamit extreme that dont work as well as the real stuff. but have very similiar names.

Do all this to one door then take a listen, balance left to right, you will think there is something wrong with the speaker in the door that isn't done.

is there a specific difference say between the trunk kit and the door kit or can i just buy a bulk roll and apply it to all those areas?

The only difference between the various kits is the dimension of the sheets that is included (fcm's comment was a little misleading).

Hey, I did not mean any disrespect. In retrospect, "misleading" was probably not the best word to use. By saying "the only difference between the various kits is the dimension of the sheets included," I was referring to the different kits that Dynamat offers, not between Dynamat and the other brands. I maybe should have elucidated that point a little better.

Dynamat and its generic equivalents are mandatory.
My single 10" sounds so much tighter, nicer and louder musically than my buddy who has the same car with more power and 2 15s because he decided so skimp on dynamat. His car rattles like a tin can and he can't even turn it up because of all the buzzing from the sheetmetal.

There seems to be a little miscommunication between us. I was referring only to the different Dynamat Xtreme applications kits available (i.e. speaker kit, door kit, trunk kit, license plate kit). I previously purchased a door kit and truck kit. They are both the same material but the sheets are different dimensions.
My original response was intended to address CrazyModGSR's question: "Is there a specific difference say between the trunk kit and the door kit or can i just buy a bulk roll and apply it to all those areas?" I was assuming that he was referring to Dynamat Xtreme only.

well, i just order 120 sq. feet of RaamMat for $160 plus shipping. Not the cheapest stuff, but heard a lot of great things about it on SoundDomain.com. I wonder if a single layer is sufficient, and if not, where should I apply multiple layers?
I am about to do my 1992 Prelude. I bought 120sq. ft. of Dynamat Xtreme for $40. I am happy. I love it when my rich friends buy stuff and decide not to use it.
Anyway, I will be doing the doors. I guess it is recommended to take off the vapor mat under the door panel.
I am going to do the interior of the car first, then the trunk if I have any leftover.

and the only other line out there with specific materials for different applications around the car is Cascade
The latest thing I'm trying is Edead V3 liquid deadener - so much easier to apply!
Second Skin seems to be coming out with some interesting products as well.
Just keep in mind - it's not a lot of one product - it's the right combo of products that will get the job done...
