Default D16Z6 diff between D16Y8?

All I hear is Z6 this and Z6 that.....what is the Z6 and the difference between it and the Y8?
Edit: Just found out the the Z6 went into the 92-95's and I knew that the Y8 was in the 96-2000's.

y8 has sqaure combustion cahmbers and supposedly is the better of the 2. also the y8 is a totally different casting than the z6, i know that the camshaft from the z6 won't work with th y8. mistabone is a d-series guru maybe he will shed some more light.

so head parts for the z6 aren't going to work on the y8.....hmmm this is going to be harder than I thought.

c/r ratios 9.6 vs 9.2 :1
larger intake and exhaust ports
larger valves (intake)
more aggressive cam
different intake manifold (for improved torque adn power)
GSR like combustion chamber

from what the crower brochure says the cams are actually interchangeable...so even though some parts are different, cams should work.....

on a dyno doesn't seem to produce any better power then d16z6 by large margin (2-3whp at most) which is strange but that could be due to obdII electronics.....

the D16y8 has a higher compression then the d16z6, but the d16z6 has a better Vtec, well thats what someone told me.

VTEC should be better on the Y8 due to the more agressive cam. The increse in hp between the Z6 and Y8 is 2 hp.

D16Z6 = 125hp
D16Y8 = 127hp

I think the increase would be higher if OBD1 electronics were used with the Y8.

the cams aren't interchangeable. ask mistabone. the cam from the d16a6 doesn't work with the y7 so i don't think that the cam from a y8 will work with the z6 head since the y8 and y7 use the same castings. i'm not sure but like i said before ask mista bone he is a d-series guru. or do a search on the endyn board cuz this was asked on that board awhile ago.

i remember someone telling me that if i swap my vtec head on a 1.5 block my compression would be higher, is that true? also what are the gains?

thanks

Nope. You have to change pistons or rods to do that.

yes, it is true the 1.5 pistons have more of a dome than the 1.6.... im not sure exactly how much it goes up, but it increase the compression... its called mini me.. you lose the displacement but gain the compression.

Yes but it is for people who already have a D15 and they want VTEC. Not the other way around.

you can make a d15 vtec just by swapping on a vtec head. its not that hard.

my friends and i have a d15b7 with a JG full race head (d16z6), and ZC pistons. It is around 12:1 compression!! Think around 160hp @ the wheels.

160 whp? 1.5? Is the race head that good? How much did this kind of set up cost?

WHy not just put the D15 pistons in a D16 Block... they have the same bore size... wouldn't that be easier?
Because the pistons would stick out of the block by 3mm and smack the head.

I call bullshit!

1.6L pistons in a 1.5L lowers the compression to about 8:1 or lower.

1.5L pistons are 3mm taller above the pin.

Page 66 of "Civic Duty"

"D16z6 BEST of ALL SOHC Engines. Plenty of internal parts available. Can be built to deliver over 250 HP (With out NOS)"
I'd like to know how someone got a D16z6 engine to churn out over 250 horses without forced induction. The best I've heard was around 190 HP for a N/A d16...
If that possible, than count me in.
