Default My DIY engine bay paint

Washed, completely sanded, ready for masking and a final rub-down.

Masked, final wipe down done and ready for paint!

Painting. I had a few neighbors glaring at me. Oh well!

First coat

Second coat. This is primer if you cannot tell.

I left the tow hook on the driver side frame rail because the lower two bolts wouldn't come out. The nuts on the other side of the frame rail broke away from the spot weld or whatever and just spin freely =/

I'll probably do the color coat on sunday. It'll be Grand Prix White. I'm just trying to figure out if I should buy a smaller gun (touch up gun) to do the color coat....it was really hard getting the large gun in some of those areas even after adjusting the pattern down smaller. That and sanding in all those small areas is a real PITA.

Any advice for the color coat, sanding, clear etc?

My neighbors hate me....I work on my car very late some nights. lol

FYI....and because somebody called me a dumbass in my other thread:

All the stock suspension is getting replaced, so it was of no concern to me that I painted the control arm posts and top of the strut.

I did take off the nuts so the actual unibody has uniform paint.

Read the post above yours

No overspray got on the outside of the frame rail anyway.

Unless your car is going to be a super-d00per sh0w kaa then I wouldn't even bother with sanding. I would just do whatever is necessary to get paint and clearcoat into all areas.

Actually, most cars don't even have a clearcoat under the hood and in the engine bay, so spraying clear will already be going beyond the way it came from the factory.

I knew that Honda didn't put a clearcoat on there from the factory....but cars with aftermarket paint jobs have clear on there usually, don't they? They're very very bright so I assume they do.

I guess I'll just sand the major areas like the shock towers and crap before I shoot the rest.

You can get a touch-up gun for ~$30-40! It's plenty big to do an engine bay.

hey how much pressure do you need to use the gravity paint gun properly? i'm thinking of buy a small compressor and using it to paint.

The gun I'm shooting with is best in the 35-50 psi range. Make sure to get a regulator! My compressor does 100+ psi....so a regulator is a must.
