alternator whine in stereo, any tips?
hey guys, im new to this forum, but im hoping some of you can help me with my 99 accord. i have an eclipse avn 2454 navi system in the dash, and i was running speakers off the headunit, i recently added a 4 channel amp with new mids/highs, and im gettin an unbearable amout of noise from my headunit, ive heard this is a common problem with accords cause of some computer in tha dash that has noise? does anyone have possible fixes for this problem? ive tried n tested everything, but still have some alternator whine noise. any help will be greatly appreciated !!
thanks
thanks
also make sure the power wires from the amp are not running next to the RCAs (in other words, make sure they run down opposite sides of the car), and make sure you use good, well-shielded RCAs. low quality RCAs will pick up a lot of interference. the ecu is behind the bottom right of the dash, near the passenger's feet. try to avoid running wires near that too.
I have the same problem in my CD6
I bought a noise supressor and hooked it up with my RCAs that are ran for my 6x9s. It eliminated most of the sound, but it is still faint. My setup is:
800w 4ch power acoustik amp
2 subs in the back
kicker 6x9s that are running off the amp
i have both RCAs ran down opposite sides of the car making sure to avoid any devices which would cause interference.
I have a couple of coworkers that are telling me that I need a power cap so that my amp draws power from it instead of the battery.
But the noise seems to be more pronounced with the A/C on. I've checked all the parts (battery, compressor, alternator) underneath the hood to make sure they all have good grounds. Everything shows to be fine.
Anyway, I'm going to try getting a good 1 farat cap and see what happens

pnut,
honestly, i don't see how a capacitor is going to help. caps help to give that extra bit of power to give you a cleaner sound at high volumes, and it also reduces headlight dimming, etc... alternator whine can be caused by a lot of different things, including bad grounds in the engine bay as well. i recently eliminated the alternator whine in my friend's car by thoroughly cleaning all the grounds in his engine bay.
just something to try...
