Default Please recommend the best/ most competitive autox brake pads.....

I searched the archives and recent topics.

Here's what I got:

"Cobalt GT-Sport and Axxis Ultimates are great for street use and for autocross use with R-compound tires."

Does this still hold true?

This is for a 2300lb hatch running on 225/45/15 hoosiers and a little shy of 200whp.....

Ultimates are great for Autox. For the price, they can't be beat.

It would also be helpful to know your brake setup.....

Williams is a major sponsor of Solo1 and Solo2 in Canada and has easily the best pads you can get.

i dont suspect you would need a special pad for auto x you dont really heat the brakes up very much.

Search!

- Carbotech Bobcat/Panther +
- Axxis Ultimates
- Hawk HP+

All are good pads... cant go wrong with either. HP+ will dust alot though, and they make alot of noise but they have the best bite.

My vote is for Axxis Ultimate. Although they dust a little more, it is no big deal for an autox car. They are cheap and very, very hard to beat for that application.

I don't like the HP+, they have let me down on feel and performance every time I've driven them. Comparable in intent to the Carbotech P+, but not in execution IMO.

Cobalt GT Sport is a great pad.
Maybe too much for a street tire.
But great with road race slicks.

Never tried the cobalt friction auto X pad (gt sports) but my track pads by cobalt are amazing. A cheap alternative is also at auto zone beleive it or not. Performance friciton compound they sell are great.

crxgator,

I used to use Hawk HP+ and found them to be great pads too till I took a leap and in an autocross that didn't matter for the ontario regional series I tried out William performance friction Solo 2 pad. well letrs just say I won't go back now.

Porterfield R4-S

I know a couple national level autocross dudes (don't want to mention names w/o there knowledge) who was using these on a BS S2000, and I found them to be quite capable as well on a 90 CRX Si in pseudo CSP trim...

Good luck... you have lots of choices it seems, [and] "that's a good thing".

Ken,
I use the Ultimates and like them, and I know Cosworth swears by the Cobalt sports. But I talked to 2 nat'l level autoxers using ITR brakes, and they run the Panther +, and say they are 'night and day' better than other street/autox pads. I haven't tried them myself, tho'

I second the R4-S's, an excellent pad.

How are these (or any of the other suggestions mentioned here) as far as corrosive dust goes? Will my wheels look like swiss cheese (since I never ever wash them)?

I ran the Porterfield R4-S's on my 90 CRX for about 1.5 years. The dust was much less than the Cobalt GT-Sports (which I'm currently running). I can't do a direct comparison on braking performance as the Porterfields were used on 10.3" EX brakes (why'd I do that?!), and I'm currently using the GT-Sports on stock brakes. I must say though, the GT-Sports are quite nice with my Hoosiers.

has anyone ran EBC'S green pads on a honda? I was impressed with them on my Volvo, but I don't know how they'd do on this car.
