Hi ,
i know i got your atention so here it is .
I'm the proud owner of a CRX .
and am building this Crx as a project car.
i have a B16 doublecarburated Turbo intercooled.
but i'm having problems with my car.
Since it like stalls and not picking up boost.
sometimes it boosts 5 Psi .
sometimes it doesn't
i was thinking it could be a leak n my system. but i went through it and didn;t find anything that could lead to that .
Maybe you guys could give me some sugestions on what to chek .
( please don't tel me things like Injector would be more easy and stuff like that )

did you check to make sure your wastegate is functioning properly?

 

Yep has been checked .
works fine.

i know it sounds stupid, but i had one i didnt know i had.

make sure the head flange didnt rattle lose

 

Is your FPR rising rate, 1:1 with boost?

Another factor is that looks to be a very poorly designed inlet hat. You want something smooth with equal flow to each venturi. That alone could be causing the problems. What jetting are you running?

 

Are you sure your carbs are set up for blow-through? I really know very little about carbs, but I do know that some do not like to see positive pressure. That is why early turbo cars had the carb prior to the turbo...

This is probably not the problem, though, since it boosts some, but maybe it reaches a threshold and is too high?

Does your vac. advance distributor retard timing under boost? heh

 

why carb instead of Fuel injection?

 

b16coupe : yes it's rising. the jetting is 190. maybe too rich ?!?!

ion_four :yes i installed an msd timing retard and yes i guess it works fine under boost.

Turbo E 604 : u never tried something strange ? like screwing 3 girls at a time.

i say run stock jetting, and not to be a dick but if you ran a injector controller i think your setup would work 100 times better because it can actually compensate more fuel for boost unlike your 1:1 fpr. a injector controller with your stock jetting would literally eliminate all your problems

are you gonna fix the rings you fried?(vague ref to the F&F)
3 girls ..hmmmm now only if i knew 3 girls...

 

i have done the blow-thru carb thing with dellorto's... can't see what you are running, because your picture link doesn't have any pics in it.

with blow-thru carbs, you have to keep the fuel pressure about 3 lbs higher than the boost pressure, and there can be quite a few mods that have to be done with the carbs to make 'em function right under boost... one of the root problems with blow-thru carbed turbocharging is that you are putting the a/f mixture in above the throttle plates.

so you must monitor the fuel pressure vs. boost pressure, just like you would with an injected blow-thru rig.

failing to reliably make a measly 5 psi of boost doesn't seem to be related to the fuel, it sounds more like an exhaust leak, wastegate problem, etc.

Nope.

Carbs compensate for boost just fine, but you do have to play with jetting - BIGGER than stock jetting - to have it run correctly.

Only thing a carby turbo setup can't compensate for is part throttle. Since only **** and little girls are afraid to keep their foot in the pedal, I don't see any problem with that...

since your nickname is curacaocrx.. i would guess you are brazilian.. i could be wrong but what the ehll... a lot of people in south america change from fuel injection to carbs... a friend of mine in argentina has a vti (eg) it already comes with a b16 so that's cool, he switched from fuel injection to 2 40/40 carbs and it's running spectacular (12.80 with the stock short block, custom cams, and some other ****).... all the people do that in south america..... seems like they can tune a carb better than a computer...

So, is the other eight seconds of expected engine life between rebuilds enough to get it on and off the tow dolly, or do they push it around the dragstrip a lot?

I've had enough stock Fiat 1.1/1.3/1.5 engines lock up on me for no reason that I can say I wouldn't own another.

 

he's not runnign the stock 128 engine.. he's running the UNO turbo engine which is 1.6 i think.... bored out to 1.8 ...

 

Much better choice, the 1.1/1.3/1.5 family of Fiat engines sucked. I always liked the 128's styling
