then please inform me. why do belts expire if it isn't for a safety reason? i'm all for saving money and the recurring costs of belts does suck, but i'd rather be alive than dead because my belts stretched

If you know the history of the belts its not a problem.
The belts that are in my car were used very little (if at all) and stored indoors in a box, but the dates are expired.

studies show that sun deteriorates the strength of your belts... BE SURE to rub your belts down with SPF 50 or greater to ensure the life of them!
also, be sure to apply some aloe if they have been outside for extended amounts of time and you fear that there has been some sun damage

I can understand the first comment, but the second one...really?

I've got two sets of Saebelt 3" 5-point camlocks in Blue. Absolutely perfect condition...in fact, I think they're back in the original bags. Didn't use them long and the car was always pampered. They were in my Si for about 3 months before I sold the car. Let me know if you're interested. I'm in Indianapolis, IN.

To create a check and balance. After 2 years the webbing needs to be re-certified for racing. There is no reason why you can't send expired belts back to the manufacturer and have them checked and re-dated/re-webbed if they are still in good shape.
IMO using an expired harness in an HPDE environment is the same thing as using a non-SFI or FIA-approved seat.
From the NASA-CCR:

The seatbelts should be in good condition. No damage may be present on the seatbelts and they must be the factory configuration. Any harness or any restraint system, other than factory stock, shall conform to CCR section #15.5, in all respects except for the expiration regulations. Harnesses that are expired for racing may be used providing that they are in at least very good condition. The use of a lap belt without any shoulder restraint is not permitted.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Instead of starting a new thread, thought I'd kinda jack this one. Sorry
About to pick-up 2, 3 point 2" club belts from a guy here local. Wanted to do a quick connect/dis-connect system in the car. Still a daily driver for the time being. Thinking of doing the eye or ring bolts in the factory belt mounting locations/ seat rails, bottom door frame, rear center seat belt mounts. This is for a 94 civic coupe. Will these bolts thread into the factory threads?
This is the unit: http://www.sparcousa.com/pharness_comp.asp?id=240
Thanks for any info. Todd

Nope. You will need to drill out the holes, and tap them for the correct size and thread pitch!
Are you putting a roll bar in, or do you already have one?
Harnesses should only be put in a car with a roll bar at least!
And I have never liked those 3 point belts!

Cage is coming this winter. Just something for autox for the time being. Then i'll get the 3" 4 point sparco camlock belt that hoop around the cage, and when my car is a trailer monster.
Thanks for the info.

OG Racing (I think it was them) sent me a pair of expired lap belts and some mounting hardware just for the asking a while back. I was going to use them for autocrossing, but now they'll be going in my Scout when we finish the sheetmetal work.
I think I paid the shipping and that was it. Doubt you'd get a full harness out of them, but you never know. Just call up and ask them if they'd cut you a deal on older stock.
