New clutch...cant get the cable just right.
First off I have searched, but there were no definitive answers. I just installed a Stage 1 clutch in my 89 Si and filled back up with Synchromesh. I have adjusted 5 different times now and it still seems like the pedal is relatively loose compared to the stock pressure plate I had on there before. So far I have adjusted it and had it grabbing while the pedal was in and then I have had it loose. I understand there isn't an exact adjustment because of stretch and other variables but does any one have good starting point?
What kind of clutch did you get??
Is the cable all the way up or all the way down???
When you say loose do you mean it's not grabbing or there is pedel play??

I got an eclutchmasters Stage 1 (cheap but decent) and as far as the cable I am going to take it up some more. What I am experiencing right now is I have to have the pedal about 2 inches in to shift. I will get it right somehow, I was just wondering if anyone had any starting points or pointers. Its really hard to tell where the clutch is releasing since the pressureplate feels lighter than the one I had before.
You should screw the adjuster clockwise (I think) until there is no play and its tight. Then back it out about a 1/16" or so of play at the adjuster. That should be it.
I have a Clutchmasters Stage 5 and it felt unbelievably loose for being a cable tranny when I first drove it. But that is the way they are.

Thanks for the help Doo! You were right.... after all was said and done it was just about 1/16th... these clutches are unbelieveably easy! Took me 100+ miles of city driving to get use to! But then again... when my last clutch blew I drove it home on a quarter size of friction material on the disc so I guess things are bound to feel different! Thanks for the advice!
