Default Choosing a header

Stock exhaust manifold on my '96 Civic EX cracked and I've to decided to upgrade as a result. Couple of quick questions...

1) 4-2-1 or 4-1? Guess I'm looking more for low- and mid-range performance than high-end gains.
2) Ceramic or stainless? I'm not overly concerned with looks. How bad is the heat on the stainless?
3) 1-piece or 2-piece? Is there more to consider than weight? Is the difference significant?

I plan to replace the entire exhaust system soon also.

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Kev

4-2-1 low to mid, 4-1 higher end.

ceramic helps with the heat.

i personally like 1 piece less to deal with especially stripping screws and crap like that and eliminates one source for an exhaust leak.

4-2-1 makes good mid range power and also some high range power as well..id recommend dc sports for the price and amount of power you make its the best bet for your application

ceramic will be cheaper and under hood temps will be slightly lower...stainless looks good runs hotter is more expensive and flows a little better(from what ive read)..id recommend ceramic for your application since you want somthing cheap that makes good power..the ceramic will offer all of that and its lighter then stainless too

id go with 1 piece for the weight issue..why have 2 iece when you can have 1 piece? im not 1200% sure but i dont think a 2 piece header has anything on a 1 piece at all..id recommend the dc sports 1 piece ceramic 4-2-1 header for your application its a direct swap..no modifications will be needed at all

imo if you just want to replace the stock header, just get watever is cheapest. 4-2-1 is usualy for mid range power and 4-1 for top end.

I got an ebay header that is 4-2-1 and ceramic coated.

Bang for the buck the weapon-r header that just came out. It's looks like a hytech knockoff just unbaffled..

My friend runs a 4-2-1 DC sports stainless and it does the job very well, specialy when VTEC starts! I would go for the ceramic also.

1) same as everyone else, 4-2-1 mid/low gains; 4-1 more high end gains
2) SS is less prone to rust out/crack and bling's nicely , ceramic's better for heat loss, but if you heatwrap a SS should do nicely to prevent too much heat
3) Just a matter of installation, 2 piece is easier to install (slightly heavier, not my much though)

i'd recommend a 4-2-1 one piece Ceramic

Actually 4-1 gives more power than 4-2-1 over the entire powerband, ask spade.

I prefer 4-2-1 because of the fitment.

Landspeed Racing has the best production SOHC Vtec header that made around 8whp if I remember correct. It was some crazy number coming from that little motor. You barely even see that with a B-series header on a bone stock motor.

to LandSpeed

cost is around $375 maybe, but well worth it if you want every bit of horsepower. Plus, the 4-2-1 design gains even more low end than the 4-1, even though the 4-1 still gains down low.

the only reason to really get a two piece is so you can get at your oil pan easy if you race alot, then you dont need to unbolt the whole thing

Heres my DC Sport Header the 4-2-1 One piece. I like this one because I like the mid range power that i gained that helps me get into my vtec range quicker and I feel like I gained some power at higher rpms but that mite just be me.
