NEED ADVISE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, here it goes, I'm new to the sport compact community. I recently bought a 1990 Acura Integra LS for $450 from some guy who just wanted it gone because he was moving. The car ran but not very good and was dumping oil from behind the timing belt sprocket because the crank pulley bolt had come completely out and every shift forword slightly letting the oil seal come out, there by letting it run out of oil and frying the oil pump and few other critcal part namely the crack. My brother and I decided to pull the engine and just rebuild it. So now to my questions. I live in California and would like to know what I do to this engine performance wise to bring for the original 130 HP to 160 or say 180 and still keep it smog legal. It has the B18A1 engine it. I already found out I can put a vtec head on it and different cams for the 92 to 95's, but is there anything else. I was told in another forum I could put the type R pistons in it, but after I checked it out the compression ratio on those is 12:1 which I doubt would pass CA emissions. I'm not looking for a whole lot HP from it because it will going to wife eventually and because of the fact that is automatic and I know there isn't a whole you can with those performace wise. I will look threw the forum more throughly later and read everything I can. So please help me out if you can. any advice, links, anything would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First off, search for B18A or B18A1 in the top right, because you will find a lot of threads.
With that said, there are a few things you could do to gain some extra hp. If you choose to get the B16 head and make a LS/VTEC motor, make sure you have it done right because they are known for leaking and etc. if it's not a quality job.
Intake, header, exhaust, cams, and some other basic work could be the beginning of your increase, but it really depends on whether you want to stay NA or go to forced induction. A small turbo would give you an extra HP boost as well. There's a lot of options, I'm sure you could find some more with a simple search.
