Default Engine Pick Up!....confused. JDM SOHC

I went out to Noyan in Manassass to pick up a JDM D15b for my hatch, but they said they are no longer carryin it because they sell the 1.6vtec. I was a lil confused because i thought there was only one d16 w/ vtec and it was the d16z6.

So i asked the guy if he could shine the light on the block and it read ZC, then i was really consufed....I thought the ZC was from a DOHC non-vtec from a CRX

I ended up buying it becuase it though cuz i needed an engine real soon. But i did some HT searchin and found no threads that really explained anything about the SOHC version...im guessin its OBD1 and is almost identical to the D16z6, it looks very similar. If anyone can hook me up with another thread or a website with a good source of info that would be nice. Also what kind of OEM parts can i use on this engine....b4 i put it in i wanna replace timing belt/W pump/and gaskets.

I also picked up a p20 tranny, how is that comparable to the EX/SI or DX?

This will be my first swap, so im new at this....but how do the internals look??

cool.
ZC 1.6 liter sohc VTEC ! oi! oi! oi! nice find... I dunno if its rare but it is jdm y0!
-my guess is that it is VERY similar to the D16Z6 motor.
-the p20 trans is indeed an EX/Si trans. good choice.
-the valvetrain looks great, not much burnt oil at all, so it was probably loved by its previous owner.

d15b is a jdm version of d16z6. it has more of an aggressive cam in it.

edit i didn't know ZC's HAD VTEC?

edit again: ZC should be a jdm version of d16a6. however i would expect a d15b head or d16z6 head onto that ZC block. check the code of that head

AH...the trans is def. an S20...jsut rechecked....so if p20 is ex/si then s20 im guessin is JDM version???

where can i check the code of the head...?

isnt the d16a6 a non-vtec sohc?...Im sure its a complete engine....i went to Noyan and they had a good 20 of 'em, along with tons of nissan clips.... it was fun to look around....they even stayed open to wait for me....ill give them a ....for now. 30 day warranty too.

I got my ZC from them and I am very pleased. I went in for a d15b and they said they didn't sell them anymore so they sold me a ZC for the same price. It is a 1.6 instead of 1.5 I love it. It is basically a Z6 with more torque

yup...got questions....they are al listed...^^up here^^...

Engine replacement parts
ECU needed
OBD1..yes?

boosthead threw me some info that actually made sense to me.....he said that the ZC came from 94-95 civics(hes not 100% positive though).....which makes sense cuz they could have upgraded from the D15b that also came in 5th gens, so im guessin..

92-93 civics= d15b - 1.5vtec
94-95 civics= ZC - 1.6vtec

thanks man!!

im guessing this engine comes with pm6 pistons so it should have almost 10:1 compression, cool. also if it ahs a more agressive cam than the d16z6 (d15b cam) it should pump out at least 140hp

in JDM they never called the motors d15, d16,.. just ZC.

it's a legit motor, basically a d16z6.

The DOHC ZC non-VTEC came in lower base 4th gen civic models in Japan as well

this is a score vs. a d15....the rods are exponentially stronger in the 1.6...

its obd-1 or atleast has a obd-1 head/distributor on it (grey plug). imma take it that it is like a d16z6 1.6L sohc vtec right? so how can u compare the D15B and the D16Z6? isnt one 1.5 and one 1.6? im kinda lost here. so in essence this is a ZC sohc block with a d15b head or a d16 head (regardless a sohc vtec head). but it came from japan assembled like this? seems kinda sketchy to me due to the fact of all the engine codes and what now i have seen this supposedly never exsisted. but if it did then thats sweet. im thinking this is a mini-me which is still very strong and a great find.

BTW> this motor is from an EJ3; ferio exi's with ONLY automatics and another model (not sure which) with 4wd...

ZC is JDM non-vtec SOHC. It's obd0, puts down 130, and has a cable tranny. That's all I know. It's not the jdm version of d16z6 that would be the jdm d15b.

Its legit...i dont think they would have taken the time to import JDM mini-me's....lol....besides they had a whole rack of 'em. The only ZC SOHC out there is Vtec..

PS...good find on that chart builthatch.....although i caught sumthin...you mentioned that the d16z6 and d15b are both JDM....but the D16z6 is from a usdm 92-95 ex/si....im sure you just accidently typed it....afterall...you did find that CHART!!...
