Default Rebuilt Tranny

A rebuilt tranny should be good as new right? My synchros and LSD went to **** and honda extended warranty was supposed to get me a remanufactured ITR tranny from their own source, however they got sent a GSR tranny and found out that the source actually can't find any ITR trannies. So my existing tranny is being sent down south to Honda America to be rebuilt.

The rebuilt one should basically be good as new right? And I guess, a honda rebuilt tranny might be better done then they outsourced rebuilt ones eh? Plus, how long does that take the guy was thinkign a few weeks. My car has been down for 2+ weeks already at the shop =/

Yes and no. Theoretically, the tranny should be as good as new, but I've got numerous tranny rebuild horror stories. If Honda is rebuilding it you are probably safe (safer than having Joe-Schmoe's corner tranny shop rebuild it), but it all depends on the parts used to rebuild it and how well the tranny guy chooses to put things back together.

I am surprised that they did not simply replace it. They do have you in a loaner car right? When the tranny in my CL-S went out (twice) under warranty they replaced it with a new one and I had a loaner the entire time the car was in the shop.

Suprises me too. A friend of mine has a 2003 CL Type S and the tranny had a slight grinding sound to it. Acura replaced the whole tranny without question as their first resort (my friend wasn't even sure they really looked at it). I understand them not finding one with their usual supplier, but I would think they would try a little harder to find another before trying to rebuild it.

this is under the extended warranty,, not the original warranty. I'm not sure if they can even find a new tranny seems like they are back ordered till november (read in some thread on here)

yea I just spoke to the service tech. They can;t even get a hold of a new one right now even if I wanted to buy a new tranny they wouldn't be able to get one. But I guess they are going to replace all the parts of my tranny and just use the original casing..
