Car hesitates at high RPM's. Replacing plugs, wires, cap, and rotor...
First off the car is a 93 Si with 94,000mi. and is basically stock motor wise besides the I/H/E.
I'm getting onto the high way and got on it a little in 3rd gear and around 4,700-5,500 RPM's the car started to hesitate a little bit. It only seems to do it in 3rd gear, if that makes any sense? It also back fired the first time this happen, then when I was trying to figure out exactly what was going on it stopped back firing and just continued to hesitate anywhere from 4,700-5,500 RPM's. So I'm thinking its some part of the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor which haven't been changed in some time. I just basically wanted to know if you guys thought it was the same thing?
Also I know everyone says go OEM with these parts as I have searched for the last 15 minutes or so but what exactly are the OEM parts. NGK plugs I get, but isn't there more then one kind? The rest of the things I have no clue to which brand is Oem. Sorry for the stupid question but I just want to make sure I get exactly what I need/should be getting.

oem refer as dealer parts and it could be a lot of difference brand that honda use. as far as the problem that you have check the plug wires resistance(25k ohms) new wire could be bad too. bad spark plug and check for proper spec. plug wires proper seated. check fuel filter you might need to change that too. as for the back fire you might have a small leak around the injectors seating. that was happended to my friend car when he had the back fire problem.
My EK did the same thing last week. I came to find out that my alternator wire was loose. Move the rubber cap off the nut, and check to see if it is loose. And I use NGK Standard plugs on my JDM Type R. IMO there is very minimal difference in spark plugs. Just the price. They are like $1.69 and I change them every 5,000. I like it better that way. I doubt the alternator is the problem, but that's what happened to me. Won't hurt to check. Goodluck
Alright so I haven't fixed the car yet, all I have been doing is working but tomorrow is my day off. Anyway I was on my way home tonight coming up to the hill on my road and I down shifted into 3rd and the car started to jump a little them the RPM's completely dropped and off went the car. I rolled a little, almost all the way to my driveway. So I walk up to my house, get a flash light and head back down to take a look. Nothing looked any different so after like 5 minutes I gave it a try and it started right up. Drove up the hill slowly in low RPM's and made it just fine. Anyone have any clue on what the problem/s could be. Anything that might ring a bell just throw it out there I guess, tomorrow I guess I'll call up some people, get the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor done and go from there. Any help from any of you would be great, I'm hoping this isn't anything major or turns into it. Thanks a lot.
Alright so I've been thinking and I'm going to go with the fuel injectors as the problem, I'm like 95% sure. The more gas I give it the more it stutters. Anyway it would be nice if anyone could add their useful 2 cents...

My buddies CRX with B16 is doing the same thing. Its getting really annoying. The weird part is, it doesnt do it all the time, and when it does start ******* up, he turns it off, and it runs fine for a bit. Then after a bit of getting on it, it starts to **** up again. I have no idea what the problem could be. I think it may be a sensor or something with the dist. wiring. If i can come to a conclusion I will let you know.
In in the same type of situation with my 94 hatch. My car hesitates upon accleration and it is struggling. Im getting spark, and I checked my wires. Im thinking my distributor is going on me. I think its a timing issue, but it could be a fuel issue as well, so I need to check my injectors I guess.
Yea my car **** the bed on me, I can drive it but if I get on it at all it dies. This is a problem since I live down a big hill so the car is being towed to a place Thursday and being fixed. Sucks *** but there is nothing else I can really do. Hopefully the problem is something small.

Well thanks to Chris (Rodney on H-T) I think the car is right again, and I saved a lot of $$$. Replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and other small things, all parts from Honda of course. So thank you again, and thanks for the suggestions and what not. Hopefully this is the last of this problem.
