1985 1500 to 1985 1600 ... I think ...
Hey people.
I don't really know if this belongs in here or not but despite my best efforts I ahve been unable to find this question having been asked before ...
I have a 1985 1500cc carby-fed Civic hatch ...
I have (what my brother assures me is) a 1985 CR-X twin-cam 1600cc Injector...
My question is twofold:
a) How do I fond the model name of the engine I have?
being used to nissan motors, I used to look in the first section of the engine number ... being unfamiliar with Hondas I don't know how to tell the engine type ...
b) When swapping the 1500 for the 1600, what concern or difculties would one assume or expect, especially with:
i) installing the wiring harness (mine is from the same car as the motor)
ii) installing the computer (again -> same car)
iii) Aquiring the different engine mount (the CR-X shares most mounts, but there is one different, I assume the CR-X mount will work ... but then I'd like to make sure.)
As a point of need, I am in Australia and therefore american companies are probably not going to be of too much help here.
Thank you all ever so much for your time and undersatnding.

First, welcome to Honda-Tech.
http://www.redpepperracing.com is a great site for 84-87 3g Civics and 1g CRXs. Their FAQ should tell you almost everything you need to know. The engine ID is stamped on the front of the block near the tranny end. It's probably EV# or EW#. The most difficult part is doing the carb to mpfi swap, but the results are well worth it. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks.
I don't think I quite understand what you mean by carby to mpfi conversion ...
I think you mean that I am changing the induction system? I think that would be incredibly difficult. Fortunately I am only swapping out a carby motor for a efi motor ... which should prove much simpler ... aparently the motor is from a 1996 civic? Something like that.
Anyways -> much abliged for your help, I'll certainly keep you all posted -> I'm sure to be asking some inane question or other at some point.

And at the end of the line is the D16A1 Brown Valve Cover version in the 1986-87 Integra with 113hp.
[red pepper racing]
This seems to describe the engine I have, only it's sourced from a civic ...
The wrecker who supplied the motor said that it will go in easy but for an engine mount ... passenger side front ...
Any clues as to a factory item that will mate this up? Or would I requre a fabrication??
Also wondering if the inlet maifold and pistons (domed) from the Black top D16A1 will work in the brown version?? (getting rid of the goldie in favour of a black top is not really an option ...)
Also it has some Programmed Electronic Ignition system ... complete with a little liht in the replacement instrument cluster ...
Well, time for all good little modders to get some sleep ...
Thanls again.
[EDIT V2]
Just to let you know:
Fortunate circumstances (and a bunch of good ideas) has led me to change my project.
I will be looking for a CR-X of about 1985 to whenever the original shape was ended, and using my motor (heck, it only cost me $500) as an interim while I try to source a black top or something even more interesting ...
I wonder if the 2liter will fit ...
Anyhow -> thanks for the help all.
