Default 90-91 Si seat recovering

My 240k mile Si was in need of a nicer driver seat cover. I wasnt sure about this idea(pass seat cover on the driver seat) at first since many ppl had talked about the seatbacks being totally different(which is true). A recent junkyard trip landed me some very inexpensive Si seats. Since the newly acquired driverside seat wasnt perfect I figured for the low price I paid I will experiment with recovering the driverside seat with the pass side cover. Here are a few pics of the work. Im not sure if anyone else has tried this cover swap before but I can honestly say Im 100% satisfied. Ill try to take a few before shots of what the driverside cover looked like before.
Cover coming off

Pass side and driverside foam comparo

New cover being stretched over seat foam

The end result

The perfect driver seat cover installed in the car

To make a long story short the 90-91 Si seat covers are interchangeable.

I was wondering aobut that... I picked up a pair of 91 Si seats for a $50 set of GSR cams, the driver side is torn up, but has good foam and frame, but the passenger side is near perfect... Now I know I can have a perfect bolster once again. Sweet.

The driver seat now has a passenger side cover on it. No more torn seat cover.

nice work, is there anyway to just tighten the cloth around the seats? mine is loosening up a bit and would like to make my own adjustments before i take it a seat place here who can rebuild the foam for like, 100 bucks or something. only the drivers side is getting worn....

There are springs that actually keep tension on the cover. Other than "adjusting" the cover there isnt any real way that I can see to tighten the cover to the foam. Ive noticed that the foam begins to deteriorate after time which will make the cover fit looser. HTH

hell yeah.

im assuming that this will also work with the 88-89 seats for the crx as well as the 88-89 / 90-91 civic si seats.
i thought about swapping the whole seat "back" from a passenger side seat to a driver side seat "bottom". anyone know anything more on this subject?

This eyelet is spot welded to the actual seatback frame. This is what prevents the backs from being swappable. Here is a pic of the eyelet.

Here is the driverside cover on the pass seat.

Here is the car the seat swap was for. If anyone needs help doing this PM me I will help as best I can.

your seats look good. do you think i have to change both the seat back and bottom b/c only the seat has a tear and the back is good. if i do it to just the seat would the fabric line up with each other?

If the bottom is ok then leave it alone. I reused the driverside foam with the pass cover. Disassemble the seat and pull the cover off. There is only one small spot on the extreme lower right corner where the foam is somewhat visible. I got out the ol' sewing kit and made it look near perfect. Even if you dont do any of this its still a great way to make a torn cover look 100% better. I was just picky, thats all.

You got it. I tried swapping foam and the bolsters on the frame are different. When you take the seats apart you will see what I mean.

Does anyone know if the driver and passenger seat are identical in an 89 Si hatch?, because I'm planning on trying to just swap the entire seats and would like to know if its possible to save a little time.

Damn I wish the foam was interchangeable. The junkyard by me has a mint pass seat and my pass is mint.. Ill have to just get the cover off that pass seat and put it on my drivers side.. How hard is it to take the cover off?

Its so easy its almost funny. Its pretty much self-expanatory once things start to come apart.

LOL this is awesome.. Off to the junkyard tom to get a mint 88si pass side cover for my drivers side! Does the seat need to be taken apart to get the cover off or does it just unzip and pull off? I dont want to have to disect the whole seat in the junkyard or buy the seat just for the cover.
