Basically self explanatory. How does it feel, look and feel at the moment you blow your engine. Anybody from experience? Does the engine just shut off? Do you hear a loud bang or explosion, smoke? What?

 

If you snap a rod or something your gonna hear it busting through the side of your engine
More likely if something goes with your valve train your not even gonna know until a few seconds later when you let off the gas and the revs come down a little. It really depends what goes, so there isnt anyway to answer your question.

 

Okay so how does it sound to bust a rod, like a low bang? After you throw a rod, does your engine keep running?
What other common things happen at High r.p.m.?
Are there any common terms like I already know "throwing a rod". Any others?

If it's a bearing.. first you will hear clicking.. then clunking... then pounding.... then you will hear your screams... mostly echoing from you

if you hear anything stop your motor.. tow it home.. and start checking things...

Lesse, my spun rod bearing in my d16a6 started as a tinktinktinktink for .5 seconds when I started the car in the morning. Then became a clicking at 4k+ rpms.

I RACED it like this for a while.

Ran good too. BONE STOCK, I beat an I/H/E 93 Civic EX.

It got progressively worse, then on the way to court for a bogus drag racing ticket, all hell broke loose. it began screeching and thunking, and it was BAD. I got it to the courthouse, parked and called a tow to get the car back to the shop for my b16a swap YAY!

WHen I broke my timing belt during a burnout, I thought my engine bay was shaking up a can of ball bearings as the revs dropped and came to a stop. Heavy stock flywheel and 8k RPM held the shortblock spinning for 5-6 seconds after the belt broke. I was in tears. 4 hours later, and I'm being towed to the shop again

One of my valve retainers let go. It wasn't a loud band. IT just died instantly. Would not start at all. This happend at about 11k rpm. #4 piston exploded. It was gone when I took the head off. It sucked really bad.

 

Aint it funny how motors always run the best *right* before they blow ? ?? ?

My motor was running the best it ever did when I spun 2 rod bearings

 

it's the most gut wrenching feeling you will ever experiance !!! strange sounds,funny smells,and visions of the checking account going good bye.

 

If you blow a head gasket, yes - lots of white smoke.

Severe oil starvation can completely lock up a motor, wheels, or both.

 

you can hear metal grinding up, smoke comes out the breath filter and the car just seized up. It surly hurts to see my type r engine destroyed. I was at englishtown when i blow my motor. I was going down the 1/4 mile when my engine blow while I was shifting into 4th gear. I end up with a time of 16sec and still beat the car next to me.....Click to the links to see pics....

the morning of my first import drags run with my turbo i wsa doing a test run next to the hotel. I had first geat wot and I shifted in second and the tires just spun...like the best run I ever had...then the valves floated and the piston smacked the valve breaking it and sending the valve into the cylinder where it embedded into the piston. car just revved down and died.

Sounded like this engine....rrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuummmmmmm *shift and tires spinning* schreeeeeeeeeech pop! tack tack tack tack tack tack tack tack off.

felt like shiite never got to run it down the track
