Anyone have any idea on around how much it will cost to replace the catalytic converter on a 1990 ci
Just found out the catalytic converter is bad, what kind of price could I expect to pay to have a mechanic replace it?
I paid like 180 for mine. It's just a cat, no high flow or nothing. I changed it myself. I also got the bolt kit for a plymoth (not sure what kind). The bolts are longer so you won't have as much trouble putting them back on.
due to legal reasons, i heard a friend of a friend let a friend's friend borrow his working cat and gave it back to the friend's friend after he smogged the car. i know this is illegal, but i never said you should do this.
a new Honda cat is extremely expensive. you can get the aftermarket ones for relatively cheap. it shouldnt take any more than 30 mins worth of labor to install professionally.

If your looking for a cat then get the CarSound ones, they are the universal ones and best of all cheap.
Ebay has them http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33629
Just get that **** welded like the bolt on and your set. Plus it's a high flow cat.

My only concern is that its a nothern car from Minnesota and its not in Georgia. It has some rust on the body of the car and I took it to get the o2 sensor replaced today and they had to break and retap it. Is changing the cat something I could do myself? What kind of things are involved?
if you cant fix it yourself then you should not buy a car than needs to be fixed.

All I want to know if its something that has to be taken to a mechanic to do or if I can put the car on jackstands and do it myself. Is there welding involved if I get a direct fit cat?
its just 3 nuts in the back and 2 spring loaded bolts in the front of the cat you need to unfasten and fasten. really simple. except the spring loaded ones can be annoying. but definately doable for any novice with jackstands and a $20 toolkit.
you might have problems with rusted nuts, in that case, it gets troublesome. keep a lot of wd40 or pb blaster on hand.
in my case, i had to use a bandsaw to separate the cat from the exhaust, and then redrill new holes and use new bolts. not very simple.

it all depends on how bad the rust is. My boy totaled his car and I was going to get his cat before I bought one, but it was the orginal cat and rusted to hell. There was no getting it off. It all depends on the seriousness (know it's not a word, but it doesn't matter) of rust.
