Default OT: Honda [Accord] Coolant in other car makes??

Hey Board

Looking for insight into running geniune Honda coolant in a e36 BMW m3 engine. Based on what i've seen on the boards, OEM honda coolant seems far superior to anything out there. Or is it?

Any thoughts? Opinions?

Interestingly, BMW spec coolant sucks for USA engines....many many problems with premature waterpump & radiator failures. My car had been run on Prestone II since new [not OE BMW] but I've googled & read mixed opinions based on Prestone phosphate content.

TIA

edit... Nearly all are ethene glycol base for the anti-freeze. It's the anti-corrosion packages that are all different & many are incompatible with each other.

I believe there the same. I think they both use a glycle base. And to help you guy's out some, Honda also has red coolant. The green OEM coolant is non-pre mix and the red is pre-mixed already. The advantage of the honda coolant is that there is no silicone in the fluid. Its very hard to find any other brand out there with no silicone in it. Most of them are low.

Thanks for the input guys. Thanks for the G-05 tip in the other thread too JimBlake.

==================
It's got a lot to do with the mix of wetted metals in your system. Try G-05, it's supposed to be pretty good. I've heard that the real problems come from inadvertantly mixing types. The anti-corrosion packages aren't very compatible with each other. It's especially bad if you mix carboxylic acid types (DexCool) with anything else. The real trick is rinsing many times so ALL the old stuff is gone. Some types tolerate tap water better than others, but I just use distilled water to be sure.
==================

Does silcone content influence cooling system blockage? I'm guessing it does from this thing I ripped off a chevy board:

=====================

DEX-Crap sux.......

Both the Chevy dealers I allow to work on the Shadow have had major problems with Dex-cool and refuse to put it in a car....

Vettes, Caprices/Imps, you name it...

Radiators - heater cores - blocks -

And that junk plugged my radiator at 30K....

Won't no more....... only distilled water - RMI-25 & WaterWetter now... Much better....

If I was anywhere cold - it would be green...

Texaco antifreeze is banned on heavy trucks

You must use LOW silicone antifreeze - not Zerex or Prestone which are high silicone.....

High silicone = jelly inside....

And please guys - if you change it every year like you are supposed too - don't add any DCAs to it.....

We use DCAs in the heavy truck biz to stop electrolysis.... it's not for cars......
==============

let's keep it going!

I've heard that DexCool attacks nylon 6.6 if you leave it in for more than 3 or 4 years. So if GM was careful about what kind of plastics are present, you're OK for 5 years. But if you put it into a car that has nylon 6.6 somewhere you better not leave it in more than 2 years.

I'm not a corrosion guru, but I work with some. I guess the different corrosion packages work in different ways, which isn't necessarily bad. But after they're depleted, THAT'S when you really have to worry about what's in there & what mix of metals is wetted.

I don't think G-05 is completely free of silicates. But with different cars, I'm not sure what's more important.
