Default 96 gs-r audio question

I'm trying to figure out what I should do, everything audio related in the car is completely stock and while it sounds relatively good, there's really no bass at all. Compared to almost every other car I've driven, it's really pretty bad.. Is this normal or is there something I'm missing?

If it's normal, what should I be looking into buying? I'm willing to spend around $350-400 on some basic audio equipment (I'm not looking for some ultra loud setup, I just want a decent amount of bass and for it to sound a little better).

Agreed, then save up and get a nice ten or something to fill in your bass needs. You will notice a difference in sound quality after you change out for a better deck tho...

so is it worth buying the deck from a place like crutchfield for the support/free wiring harness/instructions/etc, or should I just purchase the head unit on ebay and order the wiring harness and whatever else is needed seperately?

If you know exactly what you are doing, what you need, and know the product(s) you are working with well, I am all for getting it as cheaply as you can. However, if you are new to the game, aren't that familiar with what you are doing, etc. I would suggest Crutchfield. They may be a little more $$ on the front end, but they have THE BEST customer service, tech support, and stand behind all their products - as well as giving you the proper harness, diagrams, and support. At the end of the day, it is up to you - but remember that places like Crutchfield are more expensive for a reason. Hopefully you won't ever have to rely on them, but it is nice to know that they are there just in case.

hmm, what size speakers are in a 96 gs-r? I decided to not spend as much as originally planned, I bought a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP, everything I read said they should fit my needs perfectly (sorry about not getting an alpine, I really couldn't stand the look of the ones in my price range).

any suggested speakers?
