anyone install Taurus cupholders in 4th gen?
The taurus cup holders supposedly fit under the radio in the "empty space" its got a slot for coins and a pop out cup holder. i've got a 1992 and think its pretty slick idea since I have no cup holders in mine!! My question is if the shift **** or shaft will hit it when its out and if it just bolts right up. here are some pics of them installed in an integra if anyone is confused.

Give me a break. This arbitrary elitism is ridiculous. They're just cup holders for god's sake. Its not like we're talking about trying to cobble together some bastard car with an H22 and an escort transmission or something.
If I wanted cup holders, and had a choice between no cupholders at all, or putting in a ford piece that would fit, you better believe I would put that ford piece in there. (I'm not real big on drinks in the car, but if the coffee in your office is as bad as at mine, you'd want the option of buying a cup and bringing it in with you, too.)
So does anyone around here know how/if it fits in a 4th gen?

that's not looking like a good fit to me. maybe it's not all the way in. also, the slot you reference on the 4th gen is lower, right? i think it might interfere with the shifter. that plastic bit can't be that expensive, though - why not get it and try it?

just an FYI, the ford peice doesn't bolt, it mounts just like their radio's. There are two "spring" clips on each side that hold it in place
I am awfully sure that the shifter would clash with the cup holder... at least while there's a cup in it. Worth a shot though, i bet that cup holder assembly is not at all expensive.
I picked up the cup holder last night for $10!! Damn it those basterds! The things i do for honda-tech! Anyways before I bought it I took it out to my car and it looks like the shift **** and shaft will NOT hit the cup holder. My car has a short shifter and a different ****, though. I get pics as soon I I get it installed.
I finally got this thing installed today and I actually took more of my center console apart than I needed to!! I took off the shift boot housing and the radio face plate frame thingy. I actually didn't need to take any of these pieces off. i have an alpine head unit and a blocked off bottom section with no "cubby hole" to put crap in.
The first step is to moddify the taurus cup holder, its from a 1995 the older body type. The box is almost the same shape as a head unit except for there is an outter lip around the front of the box. This needs to be cut/shaved a bit so it will clear the head unit and the bottom of the console.
The second step is to either cut a hole in your block off plate, or remove the "cubby box" (for lack of a better word) and start cutting. Each plate is different so what has to be cut will be different on yours. On mine I basically cut out everything below the radio. When you hold the taurus box up to the opening you can match everything up and know what to cut.
third, Once you get the opening cut out you can try to slide the cupholder in but it most likely won't fit. There is a lip right above the ash tray light housing, since you can't cut this part out you'll have to cut the cup holder box itself. The hole in the bottom of the box needs to be a bit wider than the ash tray light housing box, and I accidently cut out an important part, it is a vertical pin that locks the cupholder tray in the "locked" position. This pin is on the left side about an inch in from the side and an inch in from the side, cut around it if you are a picky bastard but I accidently cut it out and it looks better this way (more on that later)
fourth, slide the box in to the hole
it needs to be forced/convinced to fit but don't worry it will. The clips on the side of the radio housing box should match up with the clips of the cup holder. I cut the hole a little crooked so it needed to be trimmed a bit and it slid in smooth and sit flush with the upper part of the radio frame.
Now for the fitment of the slide out trays. The top tray will not slid in all the way because of the inner metal frame blocking it, it only sits out about a 1/4 of an inch and since I cut the hole in the box and the bottom wouldn't lock either, they actually look better since they both sit out the same amount and are flush with the radio's face so no one will notice. The top tray holes the coins and has a little tray inside of it it doesn't hit the shifter. The bottom cup holder slides all the way out and actually won't hit the shifter or it ****
The only thing you need to be aware of is that when you slide the bottom tray in the "U" shaped craddle that keeps the cups held up will catch the ciggerate lighter ****, I just removed the **** Everything else fits like it came from the factory this way.
Now I have a place for my TWO drinks and all my excess change. I did this on my 1992 Si and before this I had thought about changing my center console to a 94' (I used to have a 94' Si) but I didn't like how the cup holder was in the center and was always in the way when I shifted. Over all i very happy with the end product and think this would be a benificial mod to all our prelude owner driving around with drinks between their legs or in a shoe!!
I'll get pics of it soon.
