Someone said there is a service bulletin regarding this. If I pay to have it done, any idea on how much it will cost? Does this problem actually affect the performance of the brakes?

 

not sure exactly what part you mean, but if your talking about the brake fluid level float, it's part of the cap. my dog could change it.

otherwise I've never heard of anyone opening up the MC. I think everyone just replaces it.

 

nhtsa.gov doesnt list a technical service bulletin for that part, though they do list a bunch of others, the only one tha cuod be close was the one about hte brake light coming on the dash maybe.
anyway it is damn easy.
