Default header's making fluttering noise

Searched through all 30 some pages for header questions. only found something with ticking noises but nothing that really answers my question.
So now i ask.

I just put in a dc 4-2-1 ss header into my 98 prelude with aem cai and greddy evo2.

After installation there seems to be a fluttering noise when I accelerate. is this normal? if not, then any idea what may be the problem? Seems like a n00b question but not afraid to ask.

Any helpful comments appreciated

It could be anything. What does it sound like? Does it sound like a rattle? Does it make noise while accelerating or decelerating?

Check the following.

* Intake filter - It could be that rattling on the metal frame.

* DC Sports SS header - I don't know about SS, but the CC are known to have hairline cracks and cause rattling. Inspect your flanges.

* Check the heat shields.

* It could be your CAT. CONV also.

Good Luck!

Dont worry about it man, I have the same noise on my DC and the same noise with my old motor with a OBX header, I think you can just hear the exhaust going through the pipes now with a head rather than a stock cast-iron exhaust manifold.Almost sounds like you have a exhaust leak right?

no it isnt normal if it sounds like a diesel driving by. It could be a cracked flexpipe which is the meshy looking thing before it connects to the cat. The reason i say this is because i bought a dc header used and i encountered this problem also.

I went to a local muffler shop and they told me i will have to replace the flexpipe. I highly recommend putting a spring there instead of a flexpipe because i replaced mine 3 times due to it cracking.

Once i replaced i noticed a dramatic difference.

Oh another thing...modify the collector to a 2.5" and youll notice better gains guaranteed.

good luck i hope that helped.

Well if it is a LOUD noise that is one thing but if it is just a little bit of a noise that is only noticable like when you are driving next to a semi or a cement wall to hear then its normal. Just the sound of the exhaust flowing FREE!!!!

remember, the stock H22 doesn't come with the manifold like the other hondas....

its a brand new header.
and i can hear it driving on an open road. it makes noise only when accelerating.
it makes the same noise just revving the car which is probably the same thing.. -_-
sounds like.. something is inside just flapping or rattling around with the air, somewhat sounds like a diesel engine.

thanks for the positive and helpful comments.

im going to get it checked. if anyone has other suggestions on what it could be, thanks

I've been driving around on my cheap OBX header for about 4000miles now, and I have the same noise. It sounds like an exhaust leak or spark knock, but it's from the header. I think it's leakage past the flex joint, or the rings in the flex joint rattling around. Since I know it's there I don't let it bother me too much.
