Road trip preparation
Well I am venturing out to oregon in about a week and was curious as to what you guys normally do for a road trip to "prep the car".
So far I have done the following:
checked plugs and wires and replaced them
checked all fluids and refilled
Rotated tires and ensured proper balancing
Cleaned air filter
Needing to do the following:
Change oil
Put together a "emergency kit" containing: extra oil, coolant, bulbs etc
Already have a tool kit
Need to check spare tire for proper inflation
I have a 90 accord with 182K on her, I haven't changed the tranny fluid in like 50K at least (
) I know but I am also on this road trip swapping my engine/tranny for a h22
. I have HID's in and was curious if I should use my halogens for night driving to spare the hid's or not since they typically have a lifetime usage. I will be driving 1100 miles which is about 16 hours total one way.
Anything else you guys do in preparation of a road trip?

Sounds like you got it covered
The only thing I'd recommend is a can (or two) of fix-a-flat. Works great for small leaks and saves riding on the donut, which is a pain/impossible on lowered cars.

I pack food and drinks but I like to stop. It helps to keep you awake on long trips and it's nice to get up and walk around. That always seems to help me.
I'll be going to WI this weekend and thats a 8 hour drive one way. I drive there at night though to avoid the traffic of Chicago. I usually get stuck in it on the way back though because we usually come back during the day.
Good luck with the swap.

Maybe it is just something my paranoid *** does, but i like to check all suspension/brake bolts to make sure they are torqued to spec. Also, if make some food beforehand (sandwiches, chicken, etc...) you will save quite a few $$ and make good time as you wont be needing to stop when you get the munchies. My girlfriend an I took a trip to upper Oregon from southern Cali, and only stopping for gas, made it in about 19 hours. Anther thing, the speed limit in Oregon is like 40 mph on the freeway
, so that will slow you down. You might want to look into getting a radar detector as it will come in handy if you want to cruise at 80 mph.

since you have all the essentials covered...how about things to do while driving!
-jam out to some fine tunes (legal)
-picking up hitchhikers for light conversation (illegal)
-throw miscellaneous objects at signs etc. (definitely illegal)
-laugh and talk to yourself while passing others...or honk and look the other way (just stoopid really)
..anyone else have any other suggestions for the road trip
