Default Project... is it worth it?

Well I have a chance to pick up a 1991 CRX Si pretty cheap... The body is definately in need of some TLC. It has 200k on it... no engine, No wiring harness, B16 ECU, complete B-series shift linkage, B-sieries motor mounts, tokico blue shocks with coilovers mounted, and the interior is in good shape. Just needs a B16 or bigger dropped in and some body work. Guy will sell the shell for $500 and for $300 more throw in a B18A1 block and head that needs distributor, alternator, throttle body, and fuel rail and will be complete.

Should I go with the shell with the B16 ECU and just drop in a B16? Or say fuggit and buy the B18A1 and drop that in? Wont the B16 be an easier swap?

Should I buy it or not? And should I get the B18A1 as well?

Thanks!
Rob

thats an ok price for a shell. both swaps should be take the same amount of work *hence B-series*, the only difference is that the b16 will need to wired up for vtec.

sounds like a good price for that shell including the mounts.. them with the linkage alone would run near the cost of the shell new... id probably go for it

It has rust, but I have a friend that works at a body shop... been through schooling and very very good at what he does so I can get my work done cheap. Im definately planning on getting it now that I found a B16A2 longblock with a hydro-trans and loaded up with lots of goodies. He is willing to let it go for $1200 but I know he would go cheaper.

Ill have plenty more questions for you guys here to come once I get everything.

Peace!
Rob

If you got your heart set on it bro, go for it. It'll be a good project and yet another B series CRX to join the ranks on H-tech heh

Just a bit of neighborly advice (MN)...if the body really needs some TLC...have a wallet that likes the TLC...I've been in the slow process for the past year restoring a REX Si. It's a money pit situation...just FYI. I'm doing it cause I love these rides and want to know every inch of my ride and what was done to it rather than taking some other dudes word. Most would say I should have pulled one out of the south somewhere...which is where my hatch and both door have come from...but I guess I'm just taking the road less traveled.
Por-15 the bastard if you did get it...you won't regret it.

I wasnt at interstate dragways last weekend... was contemplating it. Dave Henry's ride is INSANE! 9.71 and he could still go lower he says... Red supra if ya dont know him.

Im planning on going through with it depending on the cars condition... like I said I have a buddy that will do the body work pretty cheap for me. Wallet isnt that deep and ill be digging into it so far for this project ill probably pull the money straight out of my ***. But ever since I got into the import/tuner scene the CRX has been the car I loved the most... so fuggit why not pinch some pennies to have a fun fast little car.

I already own an 04 SVT focus but im keeping it stock for a while to preserve the warranty on it as I come to find out they can be a troublesome car. And stock this cars already kinda quick, great handeling, and looks good.

Thanks for the advice and ill def be here with some questions for you guys.

Peace!

Yeah I know the supra your talking about that car is amazing. If you plan on going though with the CRX deal and the swap I could help if you needed it. I'm in about in the same boat. I got a 90 Dx civic shell I want to drop something into to drag race. If you get the CRX we should get together.

Yeah... you know Nick Tufte of Straight Line Specialties? He is selling me the engine and dropping it in pretty cheap for me. That is of course if the guy im getting the CRX shell from doesnt back out on me now. He says the car is pending sale and he still hasnt gotten me pictures and its been over a week since I showed interest in it. I kinda want to get to know more honda owners up here... I love my focus but I have wanted a CRX forever so im saying to hell with boost on the focus im going with a CRX project. I have a buddy with a high 11's WRX ( once he gets it tuned it should be mid to low 11's ) that he is selling in favor of a 95 NSX that just came into fargo so ill be cruising around with him a lot... and if all goes well by next summer ill be able to whipe the floor with his NSX... unless the sum-na-bitch slaps down some jing for performance parts.

Peace!

Yeah my crew is in about the same boat we just got in to import tuneing about a year ago and still dont have any connections out side of our crew. There is only three to our crew and all with older cars for now. We got a 2nd gen prelude ( Kicks *** ) my 88 CRX and a old Firebird.

I would like to meet up with other people like you who are quite new but still quite interested. We should get our crews together some time. I would also like to know more about Nick and what engines he has lying around I'm looking for one.

I have been into the scene for a few years. I know quite a bit but not much about hondas. I cruise with quite a few cars on the weekends. Check out fargostreet.com and meet up with some of those guys some times. I might not be getting the crx now as I dont know if I care to fug around with the guy selling the CRX. My buddy thats getting the NSX might buy it though... if not I could hook you up with that B16 longblock from nick.

Some of the people I cruise around with are an STi, that 11sec WRX, Evo, and some other nice nice cars.

Peace!

Awesome, you guys have some cash. I am looking for a b16. "Longblock" means it comes with every thing you need for a engine swap right? Maybe a trade and some cash would work.

I'm a graphic designer for a Kvly tv 11, Kxjb tv 4, and "Sticky Business Signs" My dads company. We make custom car vinal and sign vinal. If you need some vinal for your or your friends cars maybe we could make a trade. Let me know if your intrested?

Do you drive a blue Focus with rims and tint?
