air conditioner repair
I know most of you aren't into repairing the AC, you would rather pull it out. I can't say i fully disagree. My AC bearing seized keeping the pulley from turning. Since then i've bypassed the AC with a shorter belt working only the alternator. Eventually i may repair the air conditioner, but i wanted to see the mess i was getting into. so if anyone out there has done similar work to the AC, let me know how bad it was. Thanks
I'm not sure about repairing the compressor. It is most likely more cost effective to replace the compressor. You could get a used one or a new in the neighborhood of 50.00 to 150.00.
Replacing it would just be a matter of removing two lines, 4 bolts, installing the new one and hooking it up. You obviously have to get the system evacuated and charged.

my brother and i have spent a full day to do it, but we've taken it all apart and put it back together before. you should get a 2nd hand compressor but if you want more comfort, just get a new one from honda. i have a 97 so we found that some of the parts don't match up like it's originals. now you could just take the old one out and replace it but you may consider what caused it in the first place. if your gears locked up, then it's most likely debre in your ac system. that means you're going to want to flush the entire ac system, if not... you're going to have another blown compressor in a year or so. when you replace your compressor, you're also going to have to replace the dryer becuase it has oils that suck up water as soon as it's open to the air. the most important thing is patience. these pipes are alluminum so you have to be very careful not to strip the connections. The part that gave the most headache is the connection from the engine bay to the evaporator. there is a manual that we follow and i highly recommend it. i'd have to find it and get back to you if you like. it's a good learning process if you have the passion.
thanks, i'd love to get my hands on a good bit a reading material. i've got the helms for my car, but it doesn't go into the AC detail i would like. i'll i/m you. thanks man

Take it too a shop and get it recharged.
That is the most likely problem.
