Car needs more power, I have a few options and need help.
I have a 95' accord EX and I do alot of daily driving and such but the car has always been underpowerd for my taste especailly when I need to accelerate to merge on highways, it doesn't feel very responsive and I've been thinking about FI or N/a upgrades. Now, I don't plan to race or anything for the car is an AUto, and it has to stay that way for my parents still drive it and it's partially their car but i'm using it to drive to school 1hour one trip and i'm going to be car pooling too so it has to be a reliable upgrade. What would be some good upgrades for me to do? The engine has 197k on it but has been kept in very good condition and there is no-known problems with the tranny. I just know I have the two options of turboing or buying an H22, but i've heard there are some problems with both since I have an automatic. What should I do? Btw, I need something where it won't decrease the life on the engine or tranny.
the h22 swap is very common and there should be little to know problems, especially in a 5gen. that will be your most reliable option, in my opinion.
did some searching though, and said that doing that with an auto would be a waste of money.
and where would I find an h22 with an auto tranny? i've only found them with a manual

theyre around...you could run 7psi and still be pretty safe...your best bet would be a kit though, which is still going to run you ~2k. so either way, your gonna spend money. your best bet is to put that money towards your own car...so then you can do what you want and not worry about your parents.
i can't get my own car b/c of insurance, it would cost 2,000 a year and right now I get free insurance and don't have to pay anything on my car. I've tried just a few weeks ago to find some cars but everything under 2,000 is realllly crappy. I checked the classified adds and u'll find stuff like "94 accord, runs well, 600$, good con."
I go to check it out, and it looks like a dinosour took a huge dump on it and then some1 just went in the car and stabed holes everywhere.
plus, I only will be making ~350$ a mounth working when school starts up so if I could even get a car for really cheap, it take me years just to even get it reliable and looking clean and not crappy.
so that are my reasons, and like I said, it'll be a daily driver, and I don't need a really fast car anyway, i'm 17 and I still got alot to learn about driving.
anyways, would an option for performance be to get a h22 block on my f22? I've heard that increases performance but i'm not sure by how much, or how difficult that would be to do. I've also orderd a CAI, spark plugs, spark wires, and a new coil to help some

the f22 is sohc...and the h22 is dohc..so its pointless to change the heads...now someone on here did put a h22 head on a f22 block, but the the gains are not worth it in your case. i make about what you do...maybe $400 a month when school starts and i had enough to go out with friends...pay for insurance...pay for cell....and pay my car payment (which was a $5000 loan)...so dont use that as an excuse
your best bet is to just not touch the car. put a short ram or cai intake...header...and exhaust....otherwise if you screw something up...you're majorly screwed.

First of all... your insurance isn't free. Your parents are paying it
Second... you really didn't say how much additional power you want, 5hp, 10, 50? If you want big HP, are you going to back it up with upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels/tires, especially if you are an inexperienced driver. More power can get you into trouble.
Several people have stated that adding a CAI isn't really worth it unless you put in a nice catback exhaust system.

I say, just get a short ram & a header. It will yeild some minor gains which would make your car fun for a while, but not break the bank. Then when you are financially ready, go for boost
or a swap, its up to you.
