different tires mess up LSD?
I just aquired the car that lead me to the import world. Now, the previous owner had a flat and they threw on a mich. XGT tire on there thats a 195/55/15. The other side has a Dunlop SP 5000 also 195/55/15 but they are different. The previous owner said he measured and they are definitely different diameters. The car pulls to the right really strong. Now, will the limited mileage he put on the car and from me driving back (about 700 miles) mess up or shorten the life of my LSD? BTW, I am getting new tires tomorrow and haven't driven it since I got it on Sat. Thanks.

you should have switched the rears tires to the front?
for any vehicle, it is hight recommended to avoid driving on different sized/weight/grip wheels on the same axle, especially the driving axle. So it would be safe to assume that different tires will mess up the drivetrain.
To say exactly how much extra wear was caused is undeterminable. But since you just got the car and are getting new tires, make sure you get an alignment done. And if the previous owner hasn't done so, run some maintenance on it. Change the tranny oil, have the axles inspected, etc.

Yes, your diff. thinks that you are figuritavely spinning one tire faster than the other constanly in a straight line.....put fresh front tires on it and go see how it does in a straight line and with launching it.
I didn't have time to switch, and haven't done so yet because the previous owner lost the wheel lock key.
My friends '00 ITR key doesn't work either. BTW, could any tire place break those off? Do I have to go to an Acura dealership? The closest one is over an hour away. There is a Honda dealer up the street though.

I'm pretty sure the ITR doesn't have a viscous dif...which is good because it would probably be fucked already in your case. but either way it is definately bad for an lsd to have diff size wheels running off it. you need to change that asap.

FYI... In Canada Acuras and Hondas use different keys. Call the Honda dealer and ask if they have a master wheel lock key set. If they do there's a good chance that they have a key to fit.

LOL, how did he measure this? Im just picturing him out there with a measuring tape trying to bend it into a circle. Seems like they would be close as they are the same size unless one was REALLY worn vs the new one.
Yeah just go get some 195/55 Yoko ES100s and a nice 4 wheel alignment.

ummm, diamter and circumference are different, he just measured height.
Anyway, its a moot point, the car got new tires today and drive just fine.

fyi there is such a thing as Pi tape, place it along the circumference and the markings on the tape give you the diameter

Go to any Honda specialist (read: imdependent garage) and they should have a tool that can get the wheel locks off. Then just go purchase a new set from the dealer or on here.
