HAHA.

To answer the question though.....no, leave it alone and in drive. Think of the fact that you may actually need to get going as a quick response and or, if someone nails you from behind while you are in neutral, you're going to have to hit the brake to stop as opposed to the car stopping because of gear drag.

Well, if there was a clutch in a automatic car!

Okay, I'll be serious for a moment instead of sarcastic.

Putting the gear selector in Neutral instead of Drive, just disconnects the engine from the torque converter. So when you step on the gas pedal there is no load on the engine.

Normally when you stop, the torque converter seperates the engine from the transmission so it can idle, instead of stalling out the engine, acting like a clutch in a manual transmision car. What purpose does this really serve? Beats me! I doubt it'll lenghten the torque converter life.

I am not sure if the engine is separated from the torque converter when the car stops. That is why I think that putting the vehicle in N would take the pressure off the engine while I am stopped at a red light (and as u all well know, some red light last forever). Why do you think is N right there between R and D?
I have noticed that my car is using a little less gas when I use this trick(D - N)...

any comments?

if a torque converter did not seperate your engine and transmission, your engine would stall out and shut off when you stopped.
