update on the hatch: ATS LSD + ATS 4.929 final drive installed.....
Some of you know the story, and those that don't can search in the archives about this little beast.
I just wanted to post up some recent driving impressions since I just got some tranny goodies in my shitbox.
The important thing to remember about this hatch is that it is basically just like your bone stock itr; same cams, same brakes, same abs, same wheels, same motor, same tranny, same obd2 goodness, same gauge cluster, same suspension.
I already have an ats 4.929 final drive in my itr and so I know what it "feels" like quite thoroughly - both for lapping days as well as for autox and on the streets. I have driven on an ATS LSD a long time ago, and remembered that it was "good" but how so I wasn't certain.....
With a lot of work and help from several local board members I was able to go from a stock usdm itr tranny to one with an ATS 4.929 final drive AND ATS LSD.
The difference is most apparent in the lower gears at higher rpms... But it is still somewhat noticable in the higher gears at cruising speeds as well...
The real WOW comes from the ATS LSD. It is like a partial throttle daily driver street turn broken axle nightmare, but it is AWESOME for autox. I'm thinking you must run RACE tires to reap the full benefits of it though..... and I just corded the beat up ole set of hoosiers that Chris (rodney) sent to me over a year ago.....
My original intention was to go with a 4.7 final and ATS 3,4,5 gearset. And I may just do that in the future. But I had the opportunity to do this, and seeing as how I autox a whole lot more than I get to track events I thought it'd be a good gamble.....
So far, I've autoxed with this setup twice now..... The first event was terrible, as I had to relearn how to drive the car again. The second event, it seems like the car needs to be driven hard (dare I say overdriven?) and it performs better.....
I can only imagine if I got some suspension (and negative camber) on this bad boy what would happen.....
The big huge thank you's go to: Trey (Asahi), William (typer76), Shane (kengs), Len (Len), Chris (rodney), and Yasu (www.a-t-s-usa.com)
Now for the questions: what is the "preload" of the lsd? I tried to test it with a tq wrench on the axle nut with both front wheels in the air, but wasn't sure what I was doing... I believe Yasu said it should be between 72-90 ft/lb...
Also, what is the expected lifespan of this lsd being a daily driver? And what is the lifespan being a track only vehicle? How will I know when it is close to being worn out?
Can anyone else share their experiences (good or bad) with the ATS LSD? How do you like/ dislike it?

we just need to change that
seriously, sounds like a nice setup ya got there. what clutch and FW are you running in it?
as a complete hijack, what FD do you have in your R now? 4.4??

Oh yeah, I forgot to thank Bob-dc2 for the flywheel and Dan (b18crx) for the lsd as well.....
I'm using an Action 6-puck unsprung clutch and Comptech Al 7.5lb flywheel.
The itr still has a 4.9 as well.....

Ken's lil hatch is DYNOmite! 186hp, 130ft/lbs on a dynojet with stock cams.
Loads of fun to drive even before the ATS upgrades

I ran two track events on my ATS LSD after I rebuilt it with the D20 clutch pack. One of the events was one day the other was a two day. I opened up the LSD after those events and there were hardly any signs of wear. This was after a proper break in and about 1000 miles of street driving.

Why did you open it up so quickly?
And have you tried any other kinds of gear oil such as Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 or Valvoline synthetic blend 80w90?
I have also heard good things about redline and motul gear oil.....
Thoughts?

I opened it cause I was installing a ATS FD and i figured while i was in there i might as well crack open the LSD and see if all the stories are true about clutch type LSD's wearing out quickly. seems like they're not true in my experiance. i only used the ATS oil in my trans.

Here's how the powerband is shifted with a 4.929 final <run 11 & 12> vs the stock 4.4 final (both pulls were in 4th gear) <run 60>:

That's pretty awesome Ken. Can't wait to drive it (again)

The powerband didn't "shift". It's plotted using MPH. Plot using RPM and the powerband is in the same place.

Yeah, I mistyped what I meant... but you get the idea.
I should've said that the car pulls harder relative to mph.....

awesome to see it on a graph, thats hard to explain to people sometimes.
now find someone to buy my ATS 4.9 equipped ITR tranny thats for sale!!!!
