2000 civic wont start

2000 civic wont start
My 2000 CX has over six hundred and fifty thousand kilometers on it!
it runs great except recently it didnt start a couple of times in the morning, it starts now and when its warm...so it seems.
So question about Fuel Pumps, if it was the fuel pump would the fuel pump be making a funny noise? There's no noise.
I have replaced the fuel filter many times but maybe not in the last 120 thousand kilometers.
The mechanic says he can't do anything if the car starts.
